Malia pulled out her phone. “Let me update Mason. I’m not sure if it will help or not, but it can’t hurt.”
She called her cousin and gave him an abbreviated version of what happened.
“Okay, thanks.” She disconnected. “Mason has a few leads and is following up on them now. The fact that your dad left three years ago this past April, helps set up the timeline.”
“Let’s hope.”
“What about Wilt Uphold?” Luke asked.
“That’s a name from the past. Do you think he’d know?”
“It’s worth a shot.” Ryan faced Malia. “He and Dad would go to the casino together all the time. Since Luke and I were in Bozeman, I have no idea if he kept in touch or not.”
Luke stood. “I’ll see if I can locate his number.”
“I can call my uncle. He’ll probably tell me.”
Luke’s eyes widened. “I forgot your uncle was the sheriff of Wildwood. We’ll keep that in mind. The nice thing about that is we don’t have to hide our werewolf status for him.”
“No, you don’t.”
“I put all of Dad’s papers on the top shelf of our coat closet.” Ryan stood. “I’ll look too.”
It didn’t take long before he found the number. “Got it. Want me to call?”
“Be my guest.”
Ryan would be surprised if Wilt had heard from their father, but who knows.
“Hello?”
Ryan straightened his shoulders. “Wilt, this is Ryan Lattimore.”
Wilt said nothing for a moment. “It’s been a long time. How are you?” The man sounded cautiously surprised.
“Luke and I are looking for our father, and we’re hoping you can point us in the right direction.”
“Ah.”
“Wilt, we’ve just learned that Dad faked his death. Pete Rizolli told us what happened. We’re hoping you had an idea where he might have been headed.”
“Your dad didn’t want you boys to come after him.”
Ryan pumped his fist.“He admitted that Dad is still alive.”From his fist movement, Malia probably could tell what happened. He sat next to her so she would hear.
“I understand that. He didn’t want anyone to learn where he was for fear they’d kill him. I get it. Have you heard from him since he left?”
“No, but he said he was headed toward Bozeman. Don’t know why he’d go there, though. Both you boys were up there.”
But he must have figured we’d move back to the ranch—what there was left. “He hasn’t tried to contact you since he left?”
“No.”
He sounded sincere. “If you hear from him, let me know, okay?”
“Sure.”
Ryan doubted he would call. He disconnected and relayed what Wilt said.
