I’ll give myself a week. A week to grow some balls and talk to her when I get back.

That doesn’t mean I won’t call or text her, I’m going to lay down some ground work first. I need to feel her out and see if I can figure out how she feels about me.

I thought I knew, but what if I’m wrong?

Chapter 31

Lenny

Alex insists I don’t have to ride in the Uber with him to the airport. He’s getting too old and I can’t seem to separate the man in front of me to the little kid I once knew.

Throughout breakfast he kept asking me weird questions.

“Is there anything new you’d like to tell me?”

“Do you have any big news?”

I thought he was talking about the article I submitted, but he left at seven thirty, I don’t know how the reaction will be or if I’ll even get one, but then he asked about Nick.

“Did you talk to Nick last night?”

He looked upset when I had no idea what he was talking about.

I don’t know what that was about, but I have bigger things to freak out over.

The newsletter went out by seven. So far, no word about it.

Getting my mind off it, I walk down to the gym to take a yoga class at eight. It’s a good distraction and by the time class is over, I nearly forgot all about it.

I get my smoothie and start my walk back home. But as I’m walking, I feel eyes on me. It’s that feeling of being watched by someone, only it’s everyone.

There are small groups of students in the quad that glance my way. A couple even point at me.

“Hey Lenny. Great article!” Christina, from my sociology class last semester, calls out as she passes.

A couple of more girls look over when they hear her.

I don’t like all this attention. My nerves kick up, and my stomach twists into knots

Did they like it? Did they hate it? Was it too much?

I quicken my pace and pull out my phone so I don’t have to make eye contact with anyone.

Several messages flash on my screen.

A few from my group message with Layla and Bridget.

Bridget:Love it! Way to stick it to the man!

Layla:He deserves it! Everyone’s already talking about it!

Bridget:All good things, Lenny. You crushed it!

Next a message from Alex.

Alex:I got to the airport ok. Thank you again for this weekend. I love you, sis!

Alex:I did some light reading while I’m waiting for my flight. I’m so proud of you.
