Me. Nervous! What is wrong with me?

“So, you want to be exclusive with her? No other woman? No puck bunnies? No one else? Just Lenny.” He cocks his eyebrow waiting for my answer.

“Absolutely. I only want Lenny.” That I say with full conviction.

I didn’t realize how true it was until I said it out loud, in her room to her little brother. It feels so fucking good to let it out.

“What about the puck bunny from yesterday? Or any day? I saw the girl touching you as if it’s a normal thing to be rubbing up against you.” He cocks his eyebrow, challenging me.

“I haven’t touched one of those puck bunnies since last semester.” It was a weak moment during the playoffs.

Usually I stuck to locals or random girls looking for a fun night. Not anymore.

Just Lenny.

Again, lots of things there that Alex does not need to know.

“You can’t do that shit to my sister. Tell all those girls to back off. If you break my sister's heart. I’ll break your fucking knees.” Alex leans forward so he’s in my face. “If you intentionally hurt her, I’ll do it, and I’ll make it look like an accident. I’ll be here next year, and I won’t forget what you did to her. I know, couples fight, but if you intentionally break her spirit, I won’t hesitate to destroy yours.”

He sits back with a smirk.

The evil son of a bitch. I knew he had some fire in him. I can’t wait for this kid to come back and play for us next year.

I swallow down that damn frog in my throat and stand up with Alex.

I’m speechless, as he walks me to the bedroom door.

“Goodnight Nick.” He holds out his hand for a shake. “I’m really looking forward to next year. Good luck with this one, and good luck with my sister. I really can’t thank you enough for everything you did for me, but I get it now. If she really means this much to you, I don’t doubt you’ll take good care of her.”

I’m too stunned to speak, but I manage a handshake and a slight hug.

Alex isn’t talking like a seventeen-year-old little brother. He was talking like a father. The way he looks out for his older sister is the same way I’ve seen my dad talking to my sister's boyfriends. It’s a shock to hear it, but I think I’d be the same exact way with one of my sister's boyfriends in the same situation. This kid just earned my full respect.

“Hey, what is Lenny short for? She won’t tell me her full name.” I ask, looking back at Alex before going down the stairs.

It’s worth a shot, he might tell me.

He laughs.

“Sorry, but you’ll have to get it out of her. She’s already going to kill me for our little chat tonight.”

“Alright, good luck kid,” I say as he closes the door behind him.

I find Lenny on the couch, but I don’t dare wake her.

Instead, I watch her even breaths, and her eyes fluttering. I sit on the couch next to her watching her beauty in awe. The way her nose slightly peeks up at the tip. How her thick long eyelashes rest on her cheeks. The small indent in her full bottom lip.

I really have it bad for her. I just hope she feels the same, and it’s not just physical for her.

I chicken out.

Yeah, I can say I didn’t want to wake her, she looked too peaceful. She did, but the real reason is, what if she said no?

What if she turned me down?

It wouldn’t be the first time.

I leave as quietly as I came. Replacing the key in the rock.
