“Enterprising.”

“Yeah, well. Needs must.”

Tengiz, Herb and another guy came into the room.

“Found him?” Levan asked.

“No, but…” Herb said.

“No, but what?” Levan yelled. “He’s only just escaped. How far could he get?”

“I thought his leg was broken,” Herb said.

“It wasn’t,” Ren said. Just as well he wasn’t fastened up to a lie detector. The needle would have shot into space.

Levan glanced at Tengiz who shrugged.

“I’m not sure,” Tengiz said. “He was unconscious when we carried him up here. More battered than this one. His leg was injured.”

“If his leg was injured then he couldn’t have got far.” Levan kicked Ren in the side and Ren grunted in pain.

“His leg looked wrong,” Herb insisted.

“If his leg was broken, how could…” Levan’s voice trailed away as he looked around the room.

Fuck!Ren stayed curled up on the floor.

“Check the cupboards,” Levan ordered.

Ren closed his eyes. He was not going to give Dominic away if he could help it. Every minute he could give Foster was a minute closer to success.

“Nothing,” someone said.

“I am not happy,” Levan snarled. “You use cable ties they can bite through. You don’t check on them.”

He nodded towards Tengiz. “Persuade him to tell the truth.”

Ren yelled as his arm was twisted so far back, he thought his shoulder would dislocate.

“Where is he?” Tengiz asked.

“Gone,” Ren got out through gritted teeth.

“And not you?”

“Was trying to.”

Levan pulled out his gun again and Ren’s heart lurched.

“Really?” Levan asked.

Tengiz pulled at Ren’s arm.

“Yes. Dominic’s leg was injured but not broken.”

Levan turned and fired along the wall where Dominic was hiding.Oh God. Oh God.Ren had never tried so hard in his life not to react. Please, please, please.

“Still saying he’s escaped?” Levan asked.
