I take Myra by the hand. “My love. Will you dance?”
“I would love to, my darling.”
I put one arm around her waist and take her by the hand. We dance around the floor in perfect unison. The stars and the light are a blur as are the faces of our friends. All I know is Myra. We dance alone within our own bubble, and nothing exists but us.
I don’t know how long we orbit the dance floor, but eventually, we collapse out of breath and laughing.
“I have never been so happy in my life,” she tells me, her cheeks flushed.
“I feel exactly the same,” I tell her.
Just then, Kara, one of Myra’s old coworkers from back in her Nova Casino days, comes over carrying Staxin. Eva isn’t far behind with his twin, dancing. I can’t believe our babies are six months old already.
He smiles and pats my face as Kara hands him to me. “He’s been so sweet,” she tells us. “Throughout the ceremony, he just kept laughing. The little emo bugs wouldn’t leave him alone, which made him laugh even more.”
“That’s my sweet boy,” says Myra, leaning over and giving him a kiss.
Fin and Danton walk over and join us. “That was a lovely ceremony,” says Danton.
“He was almost crying.” Fin laughs.
“No, I wasn't,” Danton retorts, his cheeks flushing purple. “I just thought it was beautiful!”
“I did, too,” says Kara, touching his hand.
Their eyes lock and something undefinable passes between them. For a second, it’s as if they're frozen in time..
I glance at Myra. I know she noticed it, too. “Do you think there’s something there between them, too?” she leans in and whispers.
“I think there could be,” I reply, my eyes wide. “Only Danton knows for sure.”
With barely a word passing between them, Danton leads Kara out onto the dance floor. I am pleased to see the gentle Danton looking happy and comfortable with a woman. And Kara looks radiant as they dance away out of sight.
“Well, that was a very interesting pairing,” says Myra with a smile.
“Do you have any more friends for me?” asks Fin hopefully.
Who should walk up right on cue?
“Clary!” I say in greeting.
“Congratulations, you young love birds,” she says with a grin.
“Thank you, Clary,” says Myra. “I’m so glad you could make it. We owe all of this to you. We are so grateful to you.”
“Oh, nonsense. Fated mates are destined to find one another, I simply gave you a little push.”
“Well, all the same, it’s good to have you here,” I tell her. “And Fin was just telling us he’d love to have someone to dance with.”
Fin’s smile freezes on his face. But he recovers almost instantly. “I sure was,” he says. “Clary, would you like to dance?”
“I’d love to,” she says with a lopsided grin. “You see, I can still pull the boys.” She gives us a wink and allows herself to be led onto the dance floor.
I’m amazed at how agile she is for an old lady, and I think Fin is, too. They look like they’re having a great time, trying to outdo one another with their moves.
“Hey, Eva! Over here,” Myra calls as she sees her friend weaving through the crowd.
“Oh, there you are,” she says as she comes over with Raxnor in her arms. “I’m so happy for you guys. This place is amazing.”
