“They… they probably were about to take a bath,” I lie. “And then hurried outside because of the tree. You know they are guards—”

“Guards?” She blinks.

“I mean bodyguards. We have a lot of guests here,” I blab. Goddess, make me stop the blabbing. “Food,” I blurt out.

Her confusion seems to grow. “Huh?”

“I mean, I’m sure you are hungry,” I hurry to explain. “Let’s go to the dining hall. Due to the weather, everyone is here, and there is lunch being served throughout the whole afternoon.”

She tilts her head. “So, is this some sort of hotel surrounded by holiday houses?”

“Yes, something like that,” I say, instantly feeling bad for lying to her like that. But what am I supposed to tell her?

“Is it really okay for me to go to the restaurant like this?” she points at her clothes, or rather my clothes. I love that she wears them and is completely engulfed by my scent.

“Of course.” I smile. “Everyone goes there casually. And due to the rain, you won’t be the only one with a bit of a special attire.”

“Good.” She nods and jumps up, rubbing her hands. “I’m hungry.”

I smile, taking her hand and pulling her out of my room. “I will show you the way.” I beam, only noticing that I’m holding her hand when I see her eyes on our entwined fingers. “I’m so sorry,” I stutter. “I didn’t think… I just…”

“Yes, this is so weird,” she tightens her grip around my hand. “Just so you know, this has never happened to me before. I’m not jumping the next-best man usually.”

Of course, it hasn’t. She probably hasn’t felt the mate bond before. While we walk downstairs, hand in hand, I can feel Lysander stir in my mind again, but just like before, I ignore him.

“Say, Dalila is such an interesting name. It’s not English, is it?” I ask her.

“My mom was Egyptian,” she explains with a smile. “I don’t know where I got my eyes from. Must be my dad. I, unfortunately, never knew him.”

“Your mom passed away?” I ask, feeling sad that she had to go through such a loss.

“She went hiking one day, and animals got her,” Dalila says sadly. “I still can’t quite grasp it.”

“I’m so sorry,” I say. “I didn’t mean to overstep my boundaries with my question.”

“You already saw my boobs,” she points out mercilessly. “You politely asking questions isn’t overstepping anything. I’d tell you if I didn’t want to talk about something.”

I nod with a smile. “People tend to say I’m a bit too confident sometimes, so don’t hesitate to tell me if I’m being an asshole.”

“I doubt you can be an asshole,” she mutters, her cheeks flushing a bit. Her words make my heart skip a beat again. With her constantly being next to me, I will die of cardiac failure. For sure. Fortunately, I get distracted by Serenade linking me and telling me that she, Marcel, and one of the warriors will continue the workshop and that I should definitely spend time with my mate. Order from my father and brother, it seems, and for once, I’m eager to follow.

“So,” I say once we reach the ground floor and lead her to the dining room. I talk with a loud voice to alert everyone inside right now. “This here is the restaurant.”

While I open the door, I also open the mind link to everyone inside and close by, including the current staff.Make sure you play along,I command.

Henry has been waiting for me and gets up now to greet my mate and me. “It’s nice to meet you officially,” he says with a smile. Henry hardly ever smiles, and to see him smiling so warmly at my mate makes my heart swell with joy. He is happy for me, and that means more than anything else. “I’m Henry.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Henry,” Dalila shakes his head. “I’m Dalila.”

“We are currently a bit crowded,” Henry explains. “We… we have a young student group residing here,” he explains to her.

She nods. “Tony explained it to me already. Something like a holiday camp?”

“Yes, exactly,” Henry agrees. “A winter holiday camp.”

“And the adults?” she asks curiously.

“They are here for a normal vacation,” I hurry to explain.
