This is Henry’s moment, and I make sure not to interrupt it with any silly comments.
“Mom,” Henry gets up and pulls Elodie up with him. He looks all flustered and nervous, unlike his normally confident expression. Some idiots claim he has a resting bitch face, while he is such a kind person. They just don’t know him and never bother to learn more about him.
Henry clears his throat, and I can feel his nervousness seep through the sibling bond.
Mom will love her,I reassure him.Don’t worry so much. She knows more than anyone else how much a fated mate means to us.
Henry doesn’t say anything, but I can feel his gratitude through our bond. “This is my mate, Elodie Desjardins.” He looks at her with little hearts in his eyes.
Elodie smiles, and through my new bond to her, I can feel her nervousness, too. I can’t link her yet, but I make sure to send her calming and encouraging feelings through the bond.
Elodie is a professional. She probably had to be for the Council, so she wills her nervousness down and greets Mom politely. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Luna Janice,” she says. “Henry has told me so much about you and Alpha Jace. It’s an honor to finally meet you.”
Mom easily looks through her tough mask and smiles warmly. “What is it with the formalities? There is no need for them.” She pulls Elodie in a welcoming hug. “You’re part of my family now, dear.”
“Yeah,” Deacon chimes in. “In reality, she is just beyond happy that her difficult son found his mate. He is a handful, you know?”
Mom glares at him for his silly comment, while Henry seems to be both flustered and annoyed.
Instead of an answer, I open the mind link to Deacon and just growl into his fucking head. No one messes with my brother… unless it’s me. “Goodness gracious,” Deacon snorts, poking his ear. “That was loud. Alright, I’m sorry. We are all happy for him.”
Elodie chuckles, wrapping her arm around Henry’s middle. “It doesn’t matter if you are a handful,” she whispers. “I have two hands anyway.”
Henry’s eyes widen, and the tip of his ears turn red.
Elise coughs into her coffee, snorting some of it out of her nose, while I can’t help but laugh at Elodie’s comment. These two crazy twins are truly a surprise. First, Elise outs herself as the thirsty twin, marking her mate almost on the spot, and then Elodie comes forward with such a sassy comment.
Mom laughs lightly. “I’m happy you get along so well.” She smiles, sitting down. Deacon shuffles away to get her some tea.
Now, only Dad is missing to have the family complete. As if on cue, the door to the dining room opens, and Dad steps inside. He is about to walk towards us when thunder shakes the building, followed by lightning, and then the electricity is cut off.
Some pack members squeal in surprise, and Dad hurries to our table.
“Wow,” I deadpan. “That was one heck of an entrance, Zeus.”
Dad smacks the back of my head without any real heat behind it. “Mom!” I mock-complain. “Dad hit me.”
Mom just chuckles in amusement.
“I can’t believe it,” Dad grumbles. “And I just wanted to have breakfast with my family.” He turns around, sending some of his warriors to check on the fuse box, while Deacon sets off to see if all our telephone lines are cut or if we can phone someone.
Our pack currently has no gamma due to our last one betraying us all, so Deacon and two of Dad’s most trusted warriors fill the position for now, and I think he might keep it vacant until Henry and I take over.
“I hope you have an alternative program for the workshop today,” Dad mutters.
“We have indoor activities planned as well,” I answer. “Serenade, and I have it covered.” It would have been cooler to start outdoors, but Serenade and I made sure to have fun indoor activities planned as well. Henry helped us plan them, but he will let me lead the workshop today.
Dad nods approvingly. “I will put the responsibility in your hands fully.”
“You won’t even watch?” I ask.
“No, Deacon and I need to make sure the pack has electricity and see if we can prevent more damage from happening. They actually gave a warning for a monsoon today.”
“In winter!?” Deacon shakes his head. “Weird things are happening for sure.”
The rest of us remain silent at his words. Both Uncle Elden and Dad agreed on not letting anyone else in on the truth. The fewer people who know about it, the safer for everyone involved. Once Dad and Deacon leave to check on the pack and make sure everyone is prepared for the upcoming monsoon, I gobble down my breakfast and get up to look for Serenade.
“If you need a hand, you know I will help,” Henry mutters, but I can see in his eyes how he almost begs me not to do it. It’s so funny how scared he is of working with teens. As usual, he is hard on everyone but the hardest on himself.
