“I’m not weakened. Everything is still there,” I tell her quietly. “Everything, just that Lysander went completely quiet and blocked our connection. He is still there, technically, he just isn’t talking to me.”

“But why?” she whispers.

“Something happened,” I tell her evasively. “After we returned from our mission.”

“Is this the reason you started to hook up with so many girls again?” she asks. I like that she doesn’t sound judgmental or condescending at all. She is just stating facts.

“I thought it would help with the silence in my mind,” I admit.

“And does it?” she asks.

I shake my head as the usual feeling of sadness fills me up. “Not even one bit.”

“Do you want to tell me what happened?” she asks tentatively.

“Are you going to be mad if I say no?”

She shakes her head. “You talk when you’re ready.”

I stretch a bit, putting my glass down. “Thanks, Elise.” I smile at her. “You put some things into perspective for me. Let’s get home. We’ll need our sleep to be fit for tomorrow.”

She agrees, and I make sure to pay for our drinks and thank Ye-Joon once more for the food he provided us. Then I drop off Elise at her hotel, promising her I’ll go home right away, which I do. I take a taxi until I’m somewhere in a more rural area. There, I shift and run back to the pack house.

My thoughts run wild while I run. The silence is still deafening, but after my talk with Elise, I can see things clearer for once.

Maybe it’s time to let go.

Maybe I should finally let go and find a way to move on. I’m not sure how to do that, though. I have no idea what to do, but I need to find a way.

ThefirstthingInotice when I wake up is Elodie snuggled against my chest. Warmth fills me at the sight. She is a tough little person, and just like me, she likes to have control over her life. I assume that’s the reason she doesn’t want us to mark each other yet, but she still wants me. She accepted me, and that’s all that matters.

Seems like we both have some problems with giving up control. The Moon Goddess matched us up just fine, it seems.

When I stir slightly, I feel another presence in my mind, not as clear as my mate’s, more like a fogged area. I blink my eyes open. That’s Tony! He opened the blockade between us again. I feel relief filling me instantly, turning on my back and brushing through my hair with both hands. Thank the Goddess!

He takes a while to reply, and I can almost see his disgruntled look in front of me.Just for the record, I still think you suck!

I chuckle, realizing too late that the rumbling in my chest will wake Elodie up. She sits up instantly. “What’s the time?”

“That’s the first thing you ask when waking up next to your hot mate?” I snort.

“Yes, yes, you’re hot. Now, time!”

“6:30,” I tell her.

“Oh, fuck.” She jumps out of the bed, leaving me completely surprised. Seems like she has a quick launch installed in her somewhere. I’ve never seen anyone going from sleep to awake that fast. I watch how she dashes into the bathroom, still fully naked, takes a shower, rummages, and then returns fully dressed and wearing makeup.

I glance at my watch while I get out of my bed. It took her ten minutes. “These are some serious skills,” I say, amazed.

“That’s why I always get mad at those dumb comments about girls needing forever in the bathroom,” she mutters. “Henry, I have to head to work. At 7:30, Elise and I have to attend a meeting.”
