“A once-in-a-lifetime experience,” she says dryly.
I look at her thoughtfully. “Did Henry send you?”
“No.” She shakes her head. “But Elodie may or may not have linked me and told me she is worried you’d do something stupid.”
I sigh. “I’m not doing anything stupid.”
“I see that now.” Elise nods. “And I didn’t think you would. Do you want to talk?”
“Not really, but knowing you, you will pester me until I tell you something,” I deadpan.
She grins. “You got me right!”
“So, short story. Henry realized I’m not feeling too good. He told Dad, Dad approached me to talk about it. He was trying to be sensitive. I will give him that. Henry and I fought.”
Elise stares at me. “That’s a very short story!”
“Yeah, but hey, I gave you something.” I smirk.
She laughs. “True.”
“I can’t believe he would just go and talk to one of our parents.” I rubbed my head. “Like… if it were me, I’d at least have tried to talk to him a dozen times.”
“Elodie is the same.” She giggles. “I can totally see her having a panic attack and then talking to her most trusted person aside from me, which would probably be Prince Eric. Just that Eric is suave and a very smooth talker, so it would have probably not ended the same way.”
“Goddess, Elodie is a bad talker too?” I grin. “Then she fits Henry.”
“No kidding.” Elise giggles. “Any difficult or emotional talk we need to have with someone always ends with me doing it.”
“Same! The number of times I dealt with the emotional aftermath of something he did is no joke.” I shake my head. “And he has such a hard time apologizing for something.”
“Elodie, too,” Elise exclaims. “Like, I love her more than anyone else, but she can’t apologize to save her life!”
“When we were being such assholes to everyone during our mission, I literally had to coach Henry through the whole apology process afterward.” I grin, remembering how I hyped him up and let him practice how to apologize to me before he said anything to our friends. He was particularly mean to Steve, who was with us on the mission, and he felt awful about it.
“And I needed to coach Elodie through accepting the apology because she’s too embarrassed to do that normally,” Elise says.
“And all the while, everyone thinks they are the tough ones,” I point out.
“Absolutely!” Elise shakes her head. “They are tough because they have us as backup.”
We both laugh.
“They are so lost without us,” I say.
“Right.” Elise nods, squeezing my arm. “He is lost without you.”
“Yeah, I got it,” I sigh. “Just give me a night. I’ll open the mind link again so that he can stop going crazy.”
She nods, sipping at her drink, a relieved smile curling her lips. “At least our meeting won’t be too awkward tomorrow.”
“We need to make sure to work well together,” I mutter. I watch her for a moment. She always seems to be in a good mood, eluding warmth and kindness. And she never seems to judge. “Lysander.” I hear myself say. “My lycan. He is dormant.”
Elise whips her head to the side to stare at me. “What?” she mutters. “Goddess is that the reason…”
I nod.
“But I can still feel your alpha aura,” she points out. “It’s not less than before. I can easily detect it, especially since you are an heir to the alpha position. And your senses and all…”
