“Then you have to lead training.” When he furrows his brows, I take pity on him. “I want to spend time with you, too.” I smile. “Just get everything done, and I’ll try to get my work done, too, then we can spend the whole evening together.”

“Good enough.” He sighs. “I’ll be so happy when I’m done with college.”

“With the way you go about it, it might be sooner than later,” I say. Tony has been incredibly motivated to finish his studies on time. He has even taken some extra classes. He says the sooner he is done with it, the sooner we’ll have more time for each other.

I like the way he thinks. He is always motivated and optimistic, while I tend to be a bit lazy sometimes.

I watch him shuffle off and jump into his car. We finished building our house just last week. I originally expected it to take forever, but it seems like when you know the right people, things just go so much faster. Tony and I spent the week after our fight against Apophis planning everything and then had it constructed to our liking. It’s our own little place.

I’m still not done with decorating and furnishing it fully, so that’s my plan for today. That and getting that security system up for a shopping mall in town.

I smile when I unwrap a new picture frame and place a photo of Mom into it. Tony and I have a little family corner, as we call it, with pictures of our family and memorials of those that aren’t here anymore. There is even a small picture of Corinne. Tony originally didn’t want to put it there. He thought it’s belittling me and the love we have, but I think she is part of his journey. Without Corinne, there would be no Tony and I. And the fact he hasn’t forgotten her just because he has moved on shows how kind-hearted he truly is. She deserves to be remembered, as her life ended undeservingly early.

I put Mom’s photo on the shelf and then one of Grandma and Dad. Lastly, I print out the digital art I made of Nephthys and put it up there, too. Then I grab my bag and head out of our house and towards the pack house.

On my way, I bump into Marcel. “Hello, Young Luna.”

“Hi, Marcel! Already on duty?”

“As usual.” He smiles. He is always so nice, and the pack easily accepted him, although he is a werewolf and not a lycan. It definitely helped that he proved himself multiple times before, and that he is fated to a member of the Council. “Elise is at work, too. And you?”

“About to meet Luna and take over some more of her tasks,” I explain. “When the baby is here, I want her to focus on it, and for me, it’s better to start learning more and more about my future luna duties, anyway. I didn’t grow up in a pack.”

“You are adapting really well, though,” he says, impressed. “I’ll accompany you to Luna Janice.”

“You don’t have to.”

“I absolutely have to.” He sounds amused. “As the gamma, I’m supposed to protect the luna. And in this case, I have one acting luna, and two young lunas.”

“That’s why we have two gammas.”

“It’s definitely easier that way,” he admits. “It would be a lot of responsibility for one person alone. By the way,” He nods at Tony’s and my house. “You and Tony really created a great place.”

“We’ll hold a proper housewarming party,” I promise “But it’s great to have our own place. I love it.” It was fun to start our relationship in Tony’s apartment, but I like that we built something together. We even have a little vegetable garden and Tony made sure we have a little outdoor onsen. He saw it in an anime and wanted one, and I’m the last one to deny him his geek or nerd fantasies.

Marcel guides me to Janice, who already waits for me with coffee and a huge plate with cake and cookies. “There you are!” She smiles brightly at me. Recently she is truly glowing. The whole pack is basically treating her like their queen, which she deserves.

I asked Tony if it’s so unusual for a werewolf couple to get pregnant once more years later. They live so much longer than humans after all, so who is stopping them? But apparently, they tend to get their family planning done early on.

“Janice.” I grin as she pushes a huge piece of cake towards me. “You are aware that I don’t have a werewolf’s metabolism? I will get fat!”

“You won’t get fat from a piece of cake, silly.” She chuckles. “Coffee?”

“Yes, please.”

“It’s so nice of you and Elodie to already help me so much with my duties.”

“Honestly, I love the work,” I admit. “I never thought I’d be a people person, but I’m really enjoying the luna tasks, and when things get too much I return to my own little cave and code something.”

“You are both doing really well.” A pause. “I’m not going to lie,” Janice says. “The work might soon get more, Dalila.”

“How come?” I ask.

“Jace is planning to have our boys take over sooner than we planned,” she says.

I find myself nodding at her words. Tony and I have already expected it.

“You’re not surprised?”
