She grins. “Right, don’t forget your exams.”

“Never been a fan of school,” I admit. “But I want to get that degree and finish college. We’ll need it for the pack.”

“I can help you when you need help,” she offers. “I have some good strategies.”

“Of course you have. You are Ms. Brain.”

Tony looks happy and chilled when he joins us for lunch, and Dalila looks well-rested, too. I’m so glad to see the two of them looking so happy.

“Did you manage to get some rest?” Serenade asks in worry, eyeing Tony’s hand.

“Yes.” Tony smiles smugly, and I instantly know what they did during their so-called rest.

“I should have come with you to Egypt,” Serenade points out. “The next time, you won’t be leaving me out that easily.”

“We are very sorry,” Tony says earnestly. “We didn’t leave you out because we thought you couldn’t handle yourself. We know you can.”

“Or we wouldn’t have chosen you as our beta,” I add.

“The reason was that originally it was a secret mission,” Elodie tells her. “Elise and I chose the team, and when we were finally sharing it with everyone, we were already so deep into it that it was just smarter to go by ourselves.”

“You are forgiven, but next time”—Serenade frowns—“You won’t be.”

Dalila giggles. “I like her.”

“And I like you.” Serenade beams. “And Elodie. You will be great lunas.”

“Good thing there are two of us,” Dalila points out. “Or I would need to quit my other job.”

“Same.” Elodie nods. “I still work for the Council, too, and need to split my responsibilities.”

“Together, we will be a full luna,” Dalila jokes.

I can feel joy seeping through my bond with Elodie. It makes her happy that Dalila likes her so much and that they are getting along. She once told me she didn’t have many friends growing up, and people normally find her directness a turndown.

I rest my hand on her knee, squeezing it gently.

What’s my future alpha doing there?she teases.

Her words make Arlo growl. Calling us alpha speaks to his baser instincts, and he definitely likes it.I just missed my mate, my future luna.

She looks flustered.You really think I will be able to do it?

Of course! You and Dalila will be fantastic! And you work well together, you will be a great team.

“So,” Serenade’s voice pulls me out of my conversation with Elodie. “When will our new gamma couple move here?”

“This week,” Tony explains. “Dad wants Marcel and Elise to start learning their tasks as he does not have an acting gamma and then get them to step into their ranks. We’ll keep them once we take over.”

“I can help them move,” Serenade offers. “Elise is so much fun, and Marcel has some hot friends.”

Tony grins. “Ulterior motives, I see.”

“Who cares as long as the work gets done?” she deadpans.

“True.” Tony tilts his head, a thoughtful expression on his face. “We could all help.”
