“Yes,” I laugh. “But you also linked Henry.”

Henry grins. “Well, in a way, we are platonic mates too… just… that we have more of a sibling bond.”

“Oh shoot,” she grumbles.

“But it’s pretty amazing that you can do it already,” I look at her proudly. “When I’m back, we can train it a bit.”

“That would be awesome.” She smiles. “The last time we linked, it happened intuitively, but it doesn’t seem to be that easy all the time. So, that goes on the list too. Training to mind link and—” She flashes me a smirk. “The other thing.” A playful smile curls her lips, and my blood boils in lust for her.

Lysander growls, too.She is so sneaky and smart,he says.Let’s come home fast!

Good to know we are on the same page,I say.

Little by little, everyone drops into the room. Elise and Marcel come together with Cassiopeia, and it seems the two women get along quite well. Someone else might have been jealous that her mate had to be in a team with another woman, but Elise is too confident to feel threatened, and Marcel only has eyes for her anyway.

Cassiopeia leaves shortly to say goodbye to her own mate before returning again.

“Everyone’s here,” Henry says after Harmony and Arman have arrived.

Auset nods. “I will have you teleported to a little forest close to the base of the Apophis cult.” She pauses. “Egypt is six hours ahead of us, so be careful. It’s deep at night already there, but you know all too well that as shifters, our senses work better.”

“We’ll split instantly upon arrival,” I tell her. “Cass and Marcel will go around the building and enter it from there. Henry and I will take the south entrance, which is the front one. Elise and Elodie the west entrance. And Arman and Harmony will check on the adjacent building where we assume further cultists are.”

“Good luck,” Auset says simply. “And keep in mind what Alpha Elden told you.”

“Be careful,” Dalila says quietly.I love you,she links me and manages to have linked only me.

I love you, too.

We all exchange a few gazes before nodding at Auset. “We are ready,” Henry says to Auset.

For a moment, nothing happens, then Auset’s eyes turn white. Her expression is more earnest now, almost stoic. “Watch out for Apophis’ tricks.” A voice says. It sounds like Auset but foreign at the same time. “He likes his mind games.”

Before I can grasp what just happened, I feel myself being sucked into a whirlwind. This is different from walking through a portal. It sucks me in, tosses me around until I unceremoniously drop down on the warm ground of a forest, rolling over in time before Marcel can land right on top of me.

“Fuck,” he groans before we both turn our attention back up and catch Elise and Elodie before they can drop to their faces like we did.

Henry and Arman land in a pile above each other, with Cassiopeia and Harmony dropping down on top of them. I have to fight my laughter.

“I swear,” Henry grumbles. “That deity, Maahes, did this on purpose.”

Arman groans, too, when he gets up. “I swear, after this, I’ve had enough of Egyptian deities.”

We take a minute to catch our breaths before getting our minds back on the task ahead. It makes much more sense now why Auset chose a place a bit further away from the base. No way would we have landed close to the cult undetected. I grab one of the infrared cameras Dalila organized for us and scan our surroundings. Everything looks exactly like the map Dalila showed us. There are a few guards ahead, though.

“These come in handy,” Arman mutters. “Sure, our eyesight works well, but this enhances it even further.”

“This is pretty much how I can see my surroundings when I shift,” Cassiopeia explains.

“So, what about the guards?” Arman asks.

“Let Cassiopeia and I do it,” Harmony offers. “There are just a bunch of them in strategically important positions.” She frowns. “Two are on a lookout tower.”

“I will get them,” Cassiopeia says.

“Just be silent,” I mutter.

Cassiopeia snorts at my comment but doesn’t deem it worthy of an answer. Right, I forgot she technically is a cat.
