We both shift our attention back to the screen as Dalila shows us her recordings.

“This is…” Deacon frowns. “This is a whole underground system. They are hiding below the ground!”

“That’s why the werecats never truly found them,” Serenade says. “Despite Auset and Dalila’s mom and grandma knowing the location. They hid well. The red dots are the people moving around?”

Dalila nods. “Yes.”

“They aren’t that many,” Henry says.

“Yes,” Serenade agrees. “But they probably have a lot of tricks up their sleeves. They seem to be the base and probably do have many followers over the continent, close like terrorist organizations have sleeper cells.” She pauses. “That’s it. They aren’t just like a cult. They function like terrorists. Just look how they attacked Auset and how they wiped out one werecat pride after another for not following their beliefs.”

Deacon nods his approval. “Good analysis, Serenade.”

“What does that mean for us?” I want to know.

Dad furrows his brows. “It means the place is probably covered in traps. Serenade is right. Here at their base, there are probably only the core members. Their followers are most likely all around the country, waiting for orders.” He pauses. “They have a deity to back them up and a few witches, which means they won’t be easy to defeat… despite being low in number at the base. I doubt you can just enter.” He looks at the screen. “Dalila, can you further hack into their system and get their member list in case they have one?”

She nods. “That shouldn’t be a problem but will take a while. Their technology isn’t topnotch.”

“That’s not unusual.” Deacon smiles. “Supernatural beings normally don’t rely on technology much, especially a group like them who consists of witches and other powerful beings.”

“Yes, they just have the basic equipment,” Dalila agrees. “I can gain control over the surveillance cameras. A few of their doors are locked with an alarm system, which I can switch off. And I can organize a bunch of infrared cameras for when you are inside. Other than that, it’s all up to you.”

We stare at the outline Dalila is presenting us with. “You need to blow this place up,” Dad says.

“A guerilla tactic would be best,” Deacon agrees. “I will have explosives prepared for you.”

“Make it one with a remote ignition,” Henry points out. “And four at least.”

“I think the same.” I frown. “Just like Arman did inside Auset’s mind, we need to destroy this place of Apophis, too.”

“How will we get there?” Elise wants to know. “A witch could open us a portal, but they would need to have been there first.”

Auset and Dalila seem to discuss something before Dalila returns to us. “Auset said that Maahes can teleport you. He has lent her his powers, remember?”

“And I have been close to that place plenty of times,” Auset’s voice comes from the side. “I will just transport you there.”

“Won’t it exhaust you?”

“No, that’s fine. It’s one of the few things I can actually do. I don’t even need to move from my bed to do it,” she says. “You just need to come to my hospital room, and off you go.”

“Perfect!” Henry nods. “And you, Dalila?”

“I will stay here with Auset and keep an eye on the cameras,” she says.

“I will watch out for her,” Auset promises. “I can tell her a bit about her werecat background.”

Auset’s promise should reassure me, but it doesn’t. I don’t know why, but it just feels like there is more to it. To my surprise, Lysander doesn’t get any weird vibes. Maybe I’m just paranoid.

Dalila's Birthright

*DALILA*

ThemoreIhearabout what my mate and his ranked pack members plan, the more I realize he was right to ask me to stay behind. It was all fun and interesting to watch from the sidelines and to unravel that mystery, but they are going into battle now, and I can’t do that. I’m not ready.

However, I’m also not ready to lose yet another person I love. Tony is all I have. I’ve always liked to be on my own, and I still enjoy my me time, but I didn’t realize how lonely I truly was until I met him.
