Before the creep can finish his sentence, I can see the figure of a lion approaching, its growl echoing through the building, louder than the sounds of destruction around me. I can only watch as the lion jumps the cloaked being, digging its claws into it.

I try to process what’s going on or to understand what’s happening, but I’ve never been more at a loss. The cloaked figure and the lion lunge at each other, and it’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever encountered. I don’t get to watch for long though as two hands grab me by my arms all of a sudden and pull me towards the exit.I don’t know for the impertinent part, the well-known voice huffs. But a fool you are!

She keeps tugging me to the exit and through the door, easily maneuvering her way through the shaking building and the rocks that try to block our way. Once outside she lets go of me. I scramble to my feet, turning around in panic while still trying to understand what has happened just now. Was it my fault? Did I unleash something evil?

Not a minute later, the whole pyramid crashes and breaks into pieces before it disappears like it has never been there to begin with.

The hot sand of the desert seems to change too, the world around me starting to spin until I find myself in a lush greenery next to a broad river. In the distance, I can see a town, while behind me, I can see the desert stretching as far as my eyes can look. It’s not an empty region anymore. There are houses and an imposing building right next to me.

I turn around a few times to take everything in when I’m suddenly aware of a person standing close to me. She reaches out her hand and hands me a handkerchief. “You are still bleeding,” she says. “You should get this tended to soon.”

My eyes take in the figure in front of me: a tall woman with warm eyes and a gentle smile. She doesn’t resemble the woman lying in the infirmary in Silverlake, but I know instantly who she is. I’m in her head after all, I would recognize her anytime. “Auset…” I whisper. It must be her manifestation in her mind, in her actual mind, not the place she was held captive in. I’m sure now that whatever happened there was completely out of her power. Something invaded her mind and kept her locked in.

She smiles. “Thank you,” she says. “It won’t take long now for me to wake up.”

“That’s your cue.” Another voice can be heard. Closer steps a tall and regal woman with smooth caramel skin and luscious black hair. But it’s her eyes that take my breath away. She has cat eyes. It’s one thing to meet her as a cat, but another to face her in person.

I drop to my knees in front of her, lowering my head in her presence. “Goddess Bastet.”

She steps closer to me. “Look at me,” she commands.

When I turn my gaze back to her, I can see a lion standing next to her, the same lion that fought the battle against the unknown being in the pyramid. He tilts his head a bit, before shifting to a person, to… to the deity I just freed. It’s him! The man chained to the pond!

My head starts to spin at all these revelations.

Khaldun,I stutter.Who…what…

Beats me,he mutters.I’m completely lost.

The male deity smiles at me. His hair is dark brown and wild, but he has a beautiful face. “I am Maahes,” he says warmly. “You have freed me, and for that I will be eternally thankful to you. When the time comes, I will repay the favor.”

“I…” I pause. “I apologize for my lack of wit and intelligence, but I…” my voice trails off.

“It’s a lot to take in,” Auset says softly. “Don’t worry, you will soon understand everything. For now, you need to return, child.”

Bastet steps closer to me and bends down in front of me. She grabs my face between her hands. “You are a fool,” she says with a grin. “But you did well. I will free you from facing any consequences this time,” she says. “The Child of Light is calling you now, and it’s about time.”

What… who is calling me?

Bastet smiles at me. “Goodbye, Arman Al-Fayez, until we meet next time.”

My… name. That’s my name! Together with Elden I tried to research and find more about my father, as Elden himself only knew my mother’s name. But now… I have a name.

I still wonder what just happened when I feel something tug at me. The world around me spins, making me close my eyes so as not to get nauseous. When I open my eyes again, I’m lying on my back. There are tissues lying around me covered in blood. I can taste iron on my lips. And above me there is…

“You’re back,” Harmony exclaims.

I’m still not quite sure where I am. The only thing I see is her. My beautiful mate…and Luna Flora, who has her hand around the red thread with grim determination in her eyes. “The Child of Light…” I mutter tiredly.

“Sorry?” Henry scoots closer. “Did you say something? Goddess, Arman… this was…”

Elden pushes past my friends and helps me up a bit. He looks me over, a hint of guilt in his eyes. “I shouldn’t have sent you in there.”

“It’s fine,” I stutter.

“The bleeding has stopped,” Elise concludes. “Wow, this was a scary shitfest, Arman. Never do that again!”

“I had no power to decide to return,” I mutter.
