Eric opens his arms in a dramatic gesture, so very usual for him. “Oh, my crazy twins.” He hugs the both of us. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I missed you.”

Eric is the closest we both ever had to family. He is not only our superior but also a bit like an older brother and certainly our best friend. He grins when he eyes our mates. “Look how prissy they look,” he teases. “Oh, Marcel, sweetheart, you know I had Elise first.”

Next to us, Alpha Elden snorts slightly. “You really know how to take the tension out of a situation, Eric.”

“Oh, I’m very aware.” Eric showers us with a broad grin. “It’s a gift not many have. So, Elodie, introduce me to that nice specimen there you call your mate. I assume it’s the broody one of the twins?”

There is no use in arguing with Eric or evading his teasing, so the best is to play along. “Yes.” I leave his hug and hurry to Henry to tug him closer. “This is Henry, my mate.”

“And does he always look so prissy?” Eric asks with a smirk.

“No,” Henry mutters. “I only look prissy when a stranger squeezes my mate!”

Eric’s lips tug into a smirk, and I’m starting to feel sorry for Henry. Eric is the master of sarcasm, and Henry doesn’t always read it correctly. Not that I blame him for it. I’m the same. To my surprise, Arman saves us from further drama. “You are,” he pauses, bowing his head politely. “Prince Eric.”

“The young Lord Arman.” Eric shakes his hand with a smile. “I’ve met your sister already and am pleased to finally meet you.”

“It’s an honor,” Arman says.

“Let me introduce him officially,” Elden interrupts us. “This is my nephew and a prince of the Council, Eric.”

It seems to dawn on Henry who he is, and I can see him looking a bit flustered.Shit, did I lash out against an actual prince?

Don’t worry,I smile.Eric’s a tease. He isn’t the stuck-up royal you would expect.

Isn’t he super young?Henry asks.He doesn’t look older than I am.

Eric is in his early twenties and one of the youngest reigning princes of the Council. He is one of Alpha Elden’s biggest supporters and wants to see him as king. It’s because of Eric that Elden agreed on taking the throne once Silverlake has a new reigning alpha.

Henry’s eyes widened.Well, a good first impression has never been my forte,he mutters. At least I stick to my usual record.

“Did you travel alone?” I hear Elise ask, her question pulling me out of my thoughts. “Or did you bring Valerie along?”

“Unfortunately, I’m on my own.” Eric sighs sadly while making an overly dramatic gesture. “My beautiful princess remained in Paris to host her guests.”

“How’s my daughter doing?” Elden asks with a smile. “She doesn’t call a lot, but Flora said that’s a good sign.”

“They are having a great time.” Eric chuckles. “Aurelia is the star. On the second day, she already went to train with our lycan warriors. I had to put my foot down then because half of them immediately wanted her as their chosen mate.” He rolls his eyes dramatically. “Your fault for producing such a stunning daughter. You must have magical sperm.”

“And the others?” Elden asks, completely ignoring Eric’s misplaced comment about his genes.

I listen curiously. Val, Eric’s mate, has invited her closest friends to Paris for Christmas and for the winter holidays in general. Aurelia is one of them. They are staying for a few weeks, it seems.

“The others are well, too. Lots of relationship drama. You will love to hear it.”

Elden snorts. “I’m not sure if I’ll love it, but I for sure am interested.”

“So, why did you come?” I ask Eric curiously.

He looks at me with mock sadness. “Can’t I come to visit my two girls and check on the two men who happen to be their mates? I need to make sure they are good enough for you.”

“Right.” Elise giggles. “And what did you really come for?”

“I have a surprise for you.” Eric’s lips tug into a secretive smirk. “Let’s visit the safety of the Council’s building for it, shall we?”

“You are here for work?” I ask curiously, suddenly a lot more interested. I knew Eric wouldn’t just come unannounced if it weren’t important.

“Let’s just say.” Eric pulls something out of his pocket, and my eyes widen when I register the arrow Arman retrieved from Auset’s dream and a vial. “I have some useful information for you. But I want it to be discussed somewhere private.”
