“I was there when he arrived at Moon Blood.” Marcel chuckles. “He got out the car, directly strode towards Harmony, who was waiting there with Alpha Celine and Lune Marius, and immediately set his eyes on his mate. They disappeared instantly, and when we saw them later for a meeting, they were both already marked.”

“Wow.” I look at Arman, impressed. “I didn’t think you would be a man of action!”

“The Goddess gifted her to me,” he mutters. “And she was waiting for her mate for years already. Why wait any longer? Is it wrong?”

“Not at all.” I grin. “Marcel and I marked each other the first moment we were alone. It’s just funny that you aren’t so different from the both of us.”

“Just that I know how to behave in front of other people,” Arman points out.

I giggle a bit. These stoic, serious men are all the same… they are so mushy and sweet when they are with their mates. Like Alpha Elden with Luna Flora… they are the cutest, or Liam with Annie. Though no one beats my own mate. I turn my head a bit, smiling gently at him. My chocolate prince is not only incredibly handsome and hot, but he is also kind, patient, and fun. I couldn’t have asked for a better mate.

It’s been a long day, followed by a long night. Dalila and I were both so worried we barely slept. I tried to soothe her through our bond a bit and held her in my arms. Eventually, she dozed off while I remained up the whole night.

You need to sleep.

Lysander has kept his promise to Elden and didn’t interrupt me once or try to influence me in any way, and I’m surprised to hear him now. My first reaction is to snarl at him and ask him why the fuck he is suddenly worried for me. When Corinne died, I battled one sleepless night after another. I was so drained I could barely walk and had to resort to energy drinks and liters of coffee to keep going. Lys’ silence made it even worse for me because it felt like he was judging me like he was blaming me for what happened. At a certain point, the only way to sleep was to hit it off with a girl so I wouldn’t be alone at night.

I want to throw all of this into his face, but I’m tired and don’t have the energy to argue right now. Also, Uncle Elden advised me not to react in an aggressive manner, or I would never be able to mend our bond. So, I decided not to answer.

I can feel his surprise through our bond, but he doesn’t comment on it. Instead, I can see a glimpse of him lying down and resting his head on his paws. I close my eyes, focusing on Dalila’s heartbeat and breath. It’s the only thing that keeps me grounded. I don’t fall into a deep slumber but doze off a bit.

We all take a short breakfast the next day, thanking Ezra for his generosity before driving back home. Uncle Elden wants us to get down to business ASAP, and I agree with him. We can’t postpone this any longer. We need to wake up Auset and make sure to tackle this threat.

Our ride back home is far less lively than when we arrived. This is until Elodie breaks the silence. “Okay, how about we stop being broody and focus on the positive.”

“And what’s the positive?” Henry wants to know.

“Well, we are a group of strong lycans and werewolves. We have a half-deity here with us, and the goddess of the werecats is rooting for us. I’d say more difficult tasks have been solved with less capable people.”

“I’m loving your optimism,” Henry mutters, steering our car through the narrow forest road.

“I’m not being optimistic,” Elodie points out. “I just think that, yes, this task is difficult, and yes, it sucks to be amidst the deity’s personal drama, but we have a lot of leads and support.”

“You are right,” I admit after a while. “We are just so shocked by the revelation that we completely forget that there are things we can do now. Like, make sure that Auset wakes up.”

Dalila nods. “We need to free the deity in her mind and wake her up. Once we have done that, we will get more answers from her.”

“And the cult messing around with everyone are humans and shifters, and maybe witches,” I say. “We can defeat them.”

Henry listens to us before sighing. “Maybe you are right. One step after another.

“That’s what I always say.” Elodie smiles.

Our car drives past a parking space where Arman is currently parking. I can see Elise shuffling around before they drive off again.

“What was that?” I blink.

Elodie grins. “Just Arman being fed up with Elise’s and Marcel’s non-stop flirting.”

“How do you know?” I chuckle.

“I felt it through our bond.” Elodie snorts. “Her main focus was Marcel.”

We all laugh, the mood getting a bit lighter. I decide it’s about time to involve Henry in my issues and live up to the promise I gave Uncle Elden. I need to have my full strength when we face this threat. “Listen, bro,” I say out aloud.

“Hm?” Henry asks.
