“I can’t be weak,” I say. “I’m supposed to become alpha. I can’t be broken.”

“You are neither weak nor broken,” she says. “You just need a bit of help to find the right strategies for you. Once you face this, I’m sure you will be even stronger, and you will be a great example to everyone who battles with issues but doesn’t dare to show them.”

“For you.” I sigh. “I will do it for you.”

“I’d rather prefer if you did it for yourself,” she says earnestly. “But I will take what I get.”

I can feel my anxiety calm down a bit. It’s not gone completely, but at least my triggers were toned down. I’m ready to face the outer world again and allow Elodie to pull me outside. “I love you,” I tell her when she closes the door behind us.

She turns around to face me, and I’m terrified I might have scared her off. “I certainly hope you do,” she huffs. “I let you mark me and am becoming your luna after all!”

She turns to keep tugging me along, but I grab her by her wrist, smirking slightly as I pull her back against my chest, wrapping my arms around her from behind. “And, is there something you want to tell me, too?”

Her cheeks are colored pink now. Who knew she could get so easily embarrassed? “You know it anyway, don’t you?”

“I would like to hear it, though,” I say.

“Fine,” she huffs. “I love you, you prick. Happy now!?”

I spin her around to kiss her. “Very!” I exclaim. I peck her lips first before deepening our kiss until I hear a cough behind us.

“This is all very cute,” Vincent, Uncle Elden’s beta, interrupts us. “But I thought we had a crisis?”

“Be glad that the kids get along,” Uncle Elden says.

I decide not to fall for their teasing and instead greet them politely. “We were about to kick off the meeting,” I say.

“Yeah, we can see,” Vincent snickers.

“You have a new tattoo?” Elodie so very skillfully changes the subject and points at Vincent’s underarm.

“Yep.” He smiles proudly, showing it to us. “Jade’s name, written in runes.”

“And you are sure that’s truly her name?” Uncle Elden asks with a stoic expression. “She is an ancient witch. I wouldn’t put it past her to make fun of you, and now you have dick or something alike plastered on your arm.”

Vincent glares. “As if she would ever…” he pauses. “Okay, she would totally do that, but I actually peeked into a book for once, and it truly means Jade. Besides, why don’t you have a tattoo of Luna Flora—”

“I have,” Uncle Elden says.

Vincent stares at him. “Why don’t I know that!?”

“Why would I tell you?”

“Is it on your ass, or why is it a secret?”

“No, Vince, I did not tattoo my ass.” Uncle Elden sighs. “It’s also not a secret. I’ve had it for years.”

While Vincent is still recovering from his shock, Elodie shakes her head. “Tattooing your mate’s name, isn’t it a bit cringey?”

“I would absolutely do that,” I say.

She blinks, her cheeks flushing a bit. “You would?”

Through our bond, I can feel her careful joy. “I think I will do it,” I add.

Elodie doesn’t comment on it further, but I can feel her happiness. Uncle Elden uses the moment to finally urge us to lead him to the meeting room, where the others are already waiting. We made sure to introduce him and Dalila to each other before starting our meeting.

To my surprise, Arman looks the most disturbed of us all.
