Pretty much the same Maahes said: That we should watch out for mind games and keep focused and concentrated, and…I pause, my voice drifting off as I shift my gaze back to Harmony. My body aches, but if my mate gets hurt like that, I should be in tremendous pain. I shouldn’t be able to think of anything or talk to a goddess…

Thank you, goddess Bastet, and you are right. I am an idiot!

She smiles shortly at me before she disappears again.

I ball my hands into fists, noticing how the illusion around me breaks the moment I discover it is false. A bunch of witches are standing around me and laughing at my misery. I do wonder why they didn’t just attack us, but I assume Apophis told them to rather play games with us.

I hope our friends were able to get themselves free from these illusions because I’m certain they were greeted by a similar fate as Harmony and I.

Khaldun,I huff.Back with me!?

Yes,he says grimly right at the moment when the door gets kicked open and a disheveled-looking Harmony stomps through. She looks furious.

Our gazes meet.

Are you ready to kill some witches? She hisses through the mind link.

It’s going to be my pleasure!

*MARCEL*

I roll forward, skillfully dodging an attack, while Cassiopeia jumps from the ground to the wall and then to a little edge in the wall like some sort of freaky super-agent. She tosses me her katana sword. While we prepared for the mission, she told me she would bring weapons along, so I’m not too surprised.

“And what are you going to use?” I yell.

With a glare, she pulls out a gun and loads it. “Precaution,” she huffs when she notices my surprised glance.

“So, it’s really our plan to just kill them all!?”

“Do you have anything better to suggest?” she asks while shooting one of the rabbits who are after us.

Our mission started normal. We made it through the entrance, killed a guard, and made it down to the cellar, which happened to be a huge underground base. Then some weird alarm went off, and the door which would lead us back upstairs closed, and these fucking freaky monster rabbits attacked us.

Apparently, being eaten alive by rabbits is one of Cassiopeia’s biggest fears. I just didn’t know that a werecat facing her nightmare would literally turn into a killing machine. It only took her a moment of shock before she went right into battle.

And it’s not just one or two rabbits we are fighting, it’s a whole bunch of them, hundreds of fucking rabbits. And, of course, my wolf had to use this moment to be disconnected from me like Cassiopeia’s jaguar.

“I hate bunnies,” she hisses. “They are creepy as fuck!”

“What is going on with these?” I ask while slicing through five of them who jumped at me at once.

“Have you never read horror stories!?” she wants to know while firing a few shots at our attacking monster rabbits.

“No, never was a fan, so enlighten me!”

“Rabbits are the freaks of nature,” she huffs with disgust in her voice. “They breed and reproduce at high speed. You put them on an island, and they will destroy everything else and even start eating themselves, these fucking creeps.”

I wonder if she genuinely read this somewhere or if she just watched a messed-up movie as a child, and it traumatized her for life. Up to this point, I thought I liked all wildlife, but when I see how one rabbit eats through two smaller ones just to reach me, I’m starting to believe Cassiopeia is right.

These are psychopaths!

Down with the rabbits! My wolf might be dormant, but I’m still a trained warrior, and Cassiopeia a kickass princess. She joins me on the ground, where we stand back to back to each other, facing our opponents. “I’m not going to get eaten alive by these monsters.”

“I got you. My babe is waiting for me to come back to her,” I point out.

“So is mine.”

We nod shortly before starting to fight our way through the attacking monster rabbits. I’m a bit impressed at how Cassiopeia doesn’t get tired at all. Her panic turned into an impressive amount of hatred. I have never seen someone deal with traumatic feelings the way she does. But whatever works for her. As long as I will be back with my Elise tonight, I’m ready to slaughter this hoard of monsters.
