Elden joins me now while we watch the others chat and talk. Even now, with the threat they are facing, they are full of motivation and joy. Looking at them makes my heart ache a bit.

“Why don’t you join them?” Elden asks quietly.

“I would just disturb their fun.”

“Is this what you believe?” Elden shakes his head. “You are only twenty-two yourself, Arman. You are young. You are allowed to have fun and act young.”

“I don’t think I know how it works… to have fun,” I admit.

“I know you had to tread carefully in your old pack to protect your sister and keep her away from the warriors’ groping hands and from your former alpha,” Elden says earnestly. “You did as much as you could to protect everyone. But I told you once: You’re not alone anymore. You still have your sister. She is doing well—”

“Indeed.” I nod my head. “Leila is so different from me. She tends to see the good side of life, and she always… does things.”

“And you have your new friends here. You have Flora and me,” he continues. “You have your gorgeous mate, Harmony.”

“She really is gorgeous.” I smile, warmth filling me. “The best thing that ever happened to me. It’s easy to be myself with her.”

“That’s good,” Elden tells me. “It’s a first step. Soon, you will realize you can be yourself anytime, and no one will judge you or hurt you.”

“Maybe,” I agree.

Elden wants to say some more, but Steve interrupts us. “Why are you standing there!?” Steve calls out to us. “Oh, and Elden is here too!” He beams and waves. Right, I almost forgot that his sister is mated to Alpha Liam, Elden’s oldest son.

“For real, Arman, don’t be a stranger.” Marcel gestures for me to come closer. “Join the fun.”

Elden nudges me a bit, and I give in, walking towards the group. “This suddenly feels like a class reunion.” Elise giggles.

Marcel puts an arm around her waist. “Now, if only Finn and Freya were here.”

The others nod.

“And Lady Leila,” Ryllis says with a shy smile towards me. “She was always so nice to us slaves… former slaves.”

I feel touched that she thinks about my sister, too. Both Leila and I did our best to protect the slaves as well as we could. We were kids when our ship wrecked, and we were saved by some of the pack warriors. We grew up in this pack, believing we were werewolves instead of lycans. We had no past there and no real identity.

Lots of things have changed within the last few months. It’s still hard for me to accept that my life has changed, and I don’t need to be on guard anymore.

My sister and I were the sole survivors of the shipwreck, and Leila has told me that the Council doesn’t believe it’s a coincidence. There is a high chance our parents and our pack members were murdered.

“Have you talked to Leila recently?” Henry asks me.

“I did.” I smile a bit. “She is currently in Paris, and she is researching our family, our heritage, and also training her gift.”

Elise shows me a warm smile. “The Council is great for her, and Paris is wonderful. I bet she will love it there.”

“I heard she is already friends with my daughter,” Elden explains.

“I’m not surprised.” Elodie chuckles. “Some of my friends from the Council told me that all the unmated males are getting crazy over these two breathtaking lycans.”

I can feel my lycan growling at the prospect of my sister being chased by a bunch of guys. Elden looks similarly pissed.

“Bad topic,” Elise chimes in.

“Did she find anything?” Tony asks. “I mean, about your past.”

I shrug. “She is still digging into it. There was a lycan pack in Egypt, one where all kinds of shifters were allowed to live in.” I pause. “Leila and Prince Eric think it might be where we came from.”

“And are you nobility?” Dalila asks. “I just wondered… because the other pack members address you so formally.”
