I never imagined the Goddess would be so cruel to her and mate me to her. I’m sure Elodie will be devastated once she knows.

I swallow down my anxiety, feeling how Arlo pushes forward more and more. He wants to meet his mate, and the bond is strong already. I’m not one to chicken out. If she is going to reject me, we better get it over with now.

I follow the sweet scent to the little gathering in one of the restaurant rooms. Elise and Elodie are there, laughing at each other. I smile slightly. Elodie is wearing a white dress, a stark contrast to her tanned skin. It makes me realize that I don’t know anything about her yet. I don’t know what she likes, her hobbies, her dreams. It’s so fascinating. Everything about her is.

It’s funny how her twin sister is standing right next to her, identical to her, yet Elodie draws my attention. She always did, even before today. She has that fiery, strong personality, and she isn’t scared of me one bit.

I’ve always liked a good challenge.

I tend to get angry fast, but with her, my anger seems to dissipate into thin air.

Let’s go to mate!Arlo demands.

Alright, alright.I take a deep breath, finally stepping forward into the room. It almost feels like I’m visiting the movies and watching a film. She sniffs the air slightly, a frown of wonder gracing her beautiful face before her eyes widen. She turns around, frantically searching for something until her eyes rest on me.

I can see the shock in her eyes.

Goddess, this is embarrassing.

I make sure not to embarrass myself further and step forward. “Hello Elise…” I smile shortly at her sister before turning my attention to my mate. “Elodie,” I mutter, and I can’t help the gentle tone in my voice.

I just want to reach out my hand to touch her. I’ve never wanted another woman as much as I wanted her. To my relief, the other guests are busy talking to Elise, so no one pays attention to us. No one will be a witness to my downfall.

Elodie stares at me, an unreadable expression on her face. “Since when did you know?” she finally asks me.

“I didn’t know,” I admit. “Not for sure, but last week, when we all met, there was this feeling, and then it dawned on me. I honestly was hoping for it to be true.”

“But you don’t like me,” she points out, her sharp eyes scanning me with a frown.

I’m shocked to say the least. For someone with such a sharp mind, she surely missed the most obvious. “Why would you think that?”

“We always argue,” she points out. “And we always clash against each other.”

“I think it’s attractive,” I tell her.

“What? Us arguing?”

“No, you having your own head and opinion.” I smile nervously. “Most girls always made sure to succumb to my whims and attitude, but you are different.”

She opens her mouth like she wants to say something, but no word escapes her lips.

“I bought this for you,” I say quietly as I hand her a bouquet of flowers and the little gift box. “Happy birthday, Elodie.”

She looks at the box in surprise, curiously opening it. Her eyes widen in surprise, and she traces the golden bracelet with her fingers. There is a cat pendant on it. She loves cats, so I hope she likes it. “Is this Van Cleef & Arpels?” she asks me, shocked.

I nod.

“This is too much, Henry,” she exclaims. “You can’t spend so much money on a gift for me!”

“I didn’t have many expenses recently and have a lot of savings,” I admit.

“You’re kidding…” she mutters.

“Not at all. We were on this mission together, and ever since we returned, I spend my time at the pack or studying.” I brush over my head in embarrassment. Truth is that ever since I met her, everything else seemed worthless to me. I didn’t want to go to bars and hook up with someone. I wanted her, even before I knew we were mates. I look at her nervously. “Do you like it?”

“I love it.” She smiles and lets me help her put it on. The tingles from the bond almost explode across my skin once we touch each other. She looks at the bracelet in awe, and I’m happy it looks so good on her. She is the type of woman for gold.

“I’m an advisor at the Council,” she whispers. “And you are a future alpha of a pack here.”
