“I have a few books in our library,” Elden tells me, raising my interest instantly. “Once we have dealt with whatever is happening here, you can come by and borrow as many books as you want.”

I smile. “Thank you,” I say, not sure what else to say.

“Alright,” Tony says. “Now, Apophis?”

“We should take all of this with a grain of salt,” I say. “Egyptian mythology is complicated and a bit messy. Depending on region and time, it changes drastically. However, Apophis is said to appear in the form of a serpent. Furthermore, he is related to Ra. He is his main rival, if you want so. Their battles are supposed to be legendary.”

“The sun-god Ra?” Elise blinks.

“Apophis and Ra are said to be siblings,” I explain.

“But what connection does he have to whatever the fuck is going on here?” Marcel asks.

“Well, going by the main mythology, Bastet is Ra’s daughter,” I explain.

“Fantastic,” Tony snorts. “So Bastet’s uncle is on a rampage, taking advantage of a cult. Her mom, Isis, and goddess know who else is apparently trying to send us a sign by making the stars with very obvious meanings to our kind appear and disappear. Isis’ sister and Bastet’s bestie, Nephthys, is personally involved because Dalila is partly her offspring. Is it just me, or are we amidst a family feud here!?”

I stare at him. “This was a surprisingly accurate summary.”

“I agree,” Arman says. “But we still don’t know the role Auset plays. Why is it so important that she wakes up?”

“That’s simple to answer,” Elden says to my surprise. “Because a deity is locked up inside her.”

“The being who I saw on my first trip,” Arman says. “The one that was chained.”

“Yes, and I’m sure Auset is connected to them,” Elden points out. “That’s why she is important. It also makes sense as to why she knew Dalila’s grandmother and mother. Clearly, Auset knew who she was, and that can only mean that she has a connection to a deity as well.”

“I,” Cassiopeia mutters. “I thought that maybe a presence invaded her mind, that she was at the wrong place at the wrong time. But for her to be connected to a deity, it means there was always a connection.”

Elden nods. “We need to find a way to wake her up.”

The Surprise Visitor

*ELISE*

Weonlystayedonenight in Wild Meadow and drove back right after breakfast. There is a lot to do and a lot of issues to tackle. Cassiopeia stayed back to organize everything with her pride and properly introduce Callum as her mate and future prince of the pride. The most important thing will be to wake up Auset because Alpha Elden is right… She knows what’s going on, and with her awake, we will finally be able to get some answers. So, our entire focus is set on her for now.

“Tony is right. This is like a telenovela,” I say while snuggling against my mate, kissing his neck softly. Arman is driving and glares into the back rear window.

“I swear if you make out the way you did on our way here, I will stop and have you leave my car,” he huffs. “Then you can drive with Alpha Elden and Beta Vincent.”

“Don’t be such a spoilsport,” Marcel teases. His hand rests on my knee, and he squeezes it gently.

“I am not.” Arman furrows his brows. “But now that we have left Cassiopeia with Callum, I’m alone with the both of you, without backup. On top of that, I feel like your chauffeur because you both sat in the backseat!”

I roll my eyes a bit. It’s rare for him to sound that dramatic, but I assume the whole situation with Auset and the deities is getting to him. Samara sighs, too.We need to be the bigger persons here, she says.At home, we can reward ourselves with our delicious mate!

Alright, alright. I really don’t want to drive with Alpha Elden.

I unbuckle my seatbelt and start to crawl forward. “What are you doing?” Arman exclaims. “I am driving, Elise!”

“I decided to take the front seat,” I tell him. “Or were you whining for no reason?”

“I wasn’t whining at all.” Arman halts the car with a deep sigh.

Marcel slaps my ass with a grin and tugs me back.
