“Good morning,” she mutters, sounding slightly cranky. “I can’t believe we slept so long.”
“Everyone did,” I reassure her. “Mom just came up to call us for breakfast.”
She yawns, pulling her arms above her head and stretching. I’m completely fascinated by the image in front of me, having her all naked and not at all concerned that I’m seeing her like that. I love it.
“Shower?” I smile, pulling her up into my arms.
She nods, allowing me to carry her to the bathroom. She is so light. That monster Colton really starved them. I’ll make sure she regains her strength, though. We shower together, washing each other and enjoying this moment of comfort and peace. This time I manage to control my urges and don’t jump her in the bath.
An hour later, we are both ready for breakfast. Freya doesn’t have any clothes, so she is wearing one of my oversized hoodies that easily goes down to her knees. I need to make sure she gets some clothes soon, not that I don’t love her dressed in my stuff and covered in my scent, but I know she will probably want her own clothes to wear.
Once we make it downstairs, I notice almost all my friends are already there, and so are Steve’s parents. I’m so happy to see them; they are my brother’s in-laws and some of the nicest people I’ve ever met.
Only Steve and Ryllis are still missing, but I’m sure they will be down anytime.
“Finn,” Anthony exclaims while waving at me. He looks refreshed and happy, and so does his brother. Weird how we started out with troubles between us, but now I’m genuinely happy to see them. Elodie and Elise, meanwhile, greet Freya and hug her, teasing her for her outfit.
But Freya apparently finds her confidence and shrugs. “I like it,” she exclaims. “Smells like Finn.”
Elise chuckles softly before eyeing the door. “Oh, there’s Steve and Ryllis!”
Before any of us can greet him, Brian and Rosalee push past us and hurry toward their son. They hug him, and Brian has tears in his eyes. “See, I told you, Rosy,” he says while Rosalee hands him a handkerchief. “We can’t let our children out of our sight. First, Annie goes off to be with her alpha, then Harmony becomes beta, and now my boy almost dies on a mission.” He blows his nose.
“I’m alright, Dad,” Steve grins. “And I wasn’t close to dying. Tony was.”
“Thanks for the stab,” Tony says.
Steve wiggles his brows at him, making him laugh. It’s the first time Steve actively jokes with the twins, and it’s great to see they’ve become friends.
Brian is hilarious, as always. He is a strong elite warrior but is never ashamed to show his feelings. Probably the reason why he gets along with Mom so well.
Steve clears his throat now, pulling away from his parents and smiling brightly. “Mom, Dad,” Steve says as he takes Ryllis’ hand and pulls her to his side. She is clad in a similar attire to Freya. “This is my apple pie…” he blinks, blushing a bit. “I mean my mate. Amaryllis.”
Brian’s mouth drops open in shock. Rosalee recovers faster, beaming happily at her son and pulling Ryllis into a warm, welcoming hug.
“Hello, sweetheart,” she says kindly. “I’m Rosalee, Steve’s mom. We are very happy to meet you.” She turns to Brian, who still stares at them in disbelief. She frowns, elbowing him. “Brian!”
“I’m just…” he stares at Steve, tears swimming in his eyes. “My boy!”
“Dad…it’s okay…” Steve says, obviously trying to save his dignity.
But Brian just squeezes him against his chest. “You found such an adorable mate. Her aura is so kind!”
Rosalee glares at her mate. “Brian, you’re embarrassing the poor girl!”
“What about embarrassing me?” Steve complains and rolls his eyes. Then his expression makes way for one of joy because Brian pulls back and smiles brightly at him.
“I’m so happy for you, Steve!” Brian exclaims, beaming with pride. “You deserve it. And I’ve already heard how well you did on your mission.”
Steve looks flustered. “It was a joint effort,” he says.
Brian squeezes his shoulder before turning his attention toward Ryllis. “You called her apple pie, but I’m sure that isn’t her name.”
“Right,” Rosalee sighs. “If you had listened, you would know her name is Amaryllis.”
“Welcome to our family,” Brian exclaims excitedly and opens his arms to hug Steve, Rosalee and Ryllis. Ryllis smiles happily at the warm welcome. Next to me, I can feel Freya visibly relaxing. Ryllis is her best friend, and I assume she was scared for her sake, not wanting her to be rejected by Steve’s parents. I probably should have told her that his parents are very sweet and kind.
I chuckle, tearing my gaze from them and shifting my attention to the others. I’m so hungry, and Max can hardly hold back his annoyance anymore. He glares at me for being starved.Don’t get me wrong, mate was super tasty too, but where are my ham & eggs? Your wolfie is starving here! If you don’t want me to shift and start chewing on everyone’s shoes, get me food.
