Henry looks like he wants to protest, so I link him.I’m easily the strongest, Henry. I know you can protect your brother, but I want us to be fast this time.

Henry sighs but nods eventually. I tie the end of the rope around my waist, praying that the ties will hold my weight before I peek over the cliff’s edge. I flash a smile at my mate, who looks worried all of a sudden.

“Don’t worry,” I say. “It’ll be alright.”

The Cliff II

*FREYA*

Iseemymatedisappearing down the cliff, my heart skipping more than a beat. This is just…why did Arman send us down such a dangerous path? What if something happens and Finn falls? I only just found him, there is no way I can lose him. Although I’ve only known him for a few days, he has already found his own special place in my heart. He is incredibly kind and lovable, despite being strong. He has this tough look with his muscles, height, and tattoos, but he is so sweet. I can feel myself opening up to him without any effort. I don’t even need Sereia to nudge me on or encourage me. It happens naturally.

To my surprise, I can feel Amaryllis’ warm hand touching mine. She has crawled out of Steve’s arms and is standing close to me now, wrapping her arms around my waist soothingly. “He is strong,” she whispers. “Really strong.”

Despite her words, I still feel nervous. I am not the only one though. Everyone else looks anxious, too, proof of how much they like him. He has good and loyal friends, and it makes me feel so happy for him and proud that my mate is such a great man.

The minutes pass by without any of us saying anything. Everyone is holding their breath, anxiously waiting for a sign of Finn. Sometimes the rope tugs slightly, indicating that Finn is moving; sometimes, we can hear little rocks rolling down and hitting the ground. I don’t even know how far above the sea we are.

Eventually, Marcel’s eyes light up. “Finn just linked me. He arrived at the bottom. He says he will come up again now and make sure we can all get down there safely.”

I can’t even believe it, but true to his word, Finn’s head soon appears in front of us again. His hair is pitch black, sticking out against the snow. When he originally arrived at Blood Snow, he had styled it to make it look a bit spiky, but now it’s in a natural style.

“The way down isn’t easy,” he tells us. “I won’t lie, but it’s doable. No worse than what we do during our training. Steve, I want you and Amaryllis to descend first again.”

Steve nods, and he lets Finn tie the rope around his body without asking any questions. They further secure Ryllis to him before he starts to climb down the cliff. Meanwhile, my gaze wanders over the landscape, frowning when I see a couple of dark clouds in the distance.

“Is the weather coming in our direction?” Finn asks me.

“Yes, it’s a blizzard,” I mutter nervously. “The clouds travel fast. They aren’t far away, maybe an hour.”

“Are you sure?” one of the twins… I think Elise asks me nervously.

“Yes, I know the signs.”

“An hour.” Finn takes a deep breath. “We need to be fast.”

“Down!” Steve yells from below us. He has loosened the rope already, and Finn pulls it back up towards us.

One after another, Finn makes sure everyone gets down the cliff. The first is Elise, her small frame and height, helping her get down there fast. I’m amazed to see that she is agile and strong. Girls in Blood Snow hold no significant meaning, so seeing her be so confident and strong despite being a woman means so much to me.

“Marcel,” Finn orders. “I want you to get down there with Freya next.”

Before I can protest, Finn has already taken my hand and kisses it. “Sweetheart, I trust Marcel. He will protect you, and I will probably need to descend with Anthony.”

I swallow my fear of being alone with another man who is not my mate, but Finn is right. He has to ensure I’m safe down there before he can help the twins. They are muscular and broad, and Finn is the only one who can help them.

“Alright, I trust your judgment,” I say, allowing Finn to secure me to Marcel’s back before Marcel carefully descends the steep cliff side. Finn was right; the way down is hard, but it’s obvious he and his friends have trained a lot as Marcel moves downwards carefully but with deft movements. I’m starting to feel safe, so I allow my gaze to glide into the distance again, noticing that the dark clouds have almost approached us now, and the wind is picking up slightly too. I can even feel the first snowflakes already.

“Marcel,” I mutter, gathering my courage to talk to him. “We need to take a risk and descend faster. The blizzard is coming faster than usual. Ten minutes.”

Marcel stiffens. “Are you sure?”

“Absolutely. Just take us down there as fast as possible,” I beg. “There are still four people up there.”

“Alright, but don’t tell on me,” he whispers.

“I won’t,” I promise, feeling surprised and happy at how seriously he takes me and how respectful he is towards me. I’m just his friend’s mate, yet he is so nice. These are good people…I am starting to reconsider my image of male warriors.
