I don’t think about it any further. Once they are out of sight, I allow Max out, effortlessly shifting into my dark brown wolf. He immediately runs towards a group of rogues and warriors approaching us and lunges on a bunch of them, not caring which of them he kills. They’re all enemies.

Henry follows my lead, easily ripping through three warriors who tried to attack him.

“More rogues!” a guard yells. “These three are huge. They probably took something to be that big. Be careful! Kill them first!”

Three?I link Henry.

It’s my gift. I made him see me double,he says smugly.

I don’t even mind him sounding smug. It’s fucking cool to be able to trick your enemy that way.

The guard’s words stir an idea in me too.Max?

On it,he exclaims. We shift our concentration away from the fight and to mine and Henry’s aura for a second. I allow Max to manipulate it until…

Henry curls his nose. Why do we stink all of a sudden?

I just made us rogues,I say.At least for a few minutes.

We don’t discuss it further, instead, we both use the new situation to our advantage. I knock out the guard without even batting an eye. Fortunately, his screaming has worked in our favor, because the rogues and warriors shift their attention to us instead of Freya and the others.

Make sure to spread the bodies around a bit!I tell Henry. Max grabs one of the bodies in his mouth and drags them along with us.

Of course, but why?

It will look like the rogues dragged some of the bodies along, and it will diffuse our actual traces.I allow my scent to seep through again and mix with the rogue scent. They might think they got us, too, and will stop searching.

Got it.Henry nods grimly, following my lead.

We work fast and effectively, but don’t have much time to waste. After we spread some bodies around, I grab one and throw it further ahead so it falls down a steep slope. I feel a twinge of guilt for doing it. Who knows if all these people are bad? But for now, I don’t have many other options.

It’s all we can do for now,I growl.Let’s catch up with the others.

I might have had some problems with Henry in particular, but I have to admit he is capable, and once he has set his mind on something, he works hard. When he drops his attitude, he shows some redeeming qualities. I almost feel bad for my harsh words towards him and Anthony.

Good job,I tell him when we keep running through the forest until I catch the scents of my friends and mate. I return our scents to normal again before we reach them.

Henry seems to be surprised by my praise, but also happy.

Positive reinforcement really does work.

I’m so used to Liam being the big brother to me and the others that I’m out of touch with my own big bro vibes. I have no idea how Liam did it with us, but he was far more patient than I am.

Henry and I quickly catch up with the others. Further away, I can still hear the noise from the fight. Good, they are still occupied. I hope that all the slaves and regular pack members are safe. Fortunately, the rogue attack seems to be at the borders, and the fire only targeted our room. I doubt Colton would burn the pack house down. He has too much of a superiority complex to burn down his house, palace, or whatever he calls it.

“There they are,” Anthony exclaims, pointing toward Henry and me.

“Thank the Goddess,” Steve exclaims.

Once we reach them, they finally take a break. All of them are panting heavily now; it was a long run and through snow on top of that. Henry and I shift back too and accept the clothes Anthony and Marcel hand us. I smile inwardly when I notice how Freya keeps staring at me, a glint in her eyes.

Hehe.Max stretches in my mind and grins like an idiot.I told you our massive joystick would win her over! You should have believed in my wisdom more.

I furrow my brows.Did you just refer to my penis as a joystick?

You’re right. It sounds weird. How about…our Moby Dick surely is impressive!

I frown. That’s even worse. On second thought, Joystick sounds fine.
