Not too bad yet,she mutters, but I’m already running in that direction. But I think they are about to snap.
Damn it, I curse to myself. We shouldn’t have split up. This has the potential for disaster written all over it. And the terrible thing is that I can’t even blame Steve or Anthony for wanting to save a poor soul that was probably about to get either beaten or raped in front of their eyes.
But I need to stop them before things escalate any further. Fortunately, the training grounds are close by, and soon I see both of them having a staring battle with two warriors. The others have formed a circle around them, apparently unsure of what to do. Adding fuel to this potential disaster, it seems Marcel and Henry have finished their tracker training and are walking over to join the training.
Marcel halts in his tracks, noticing something is off and signaling Henry to stay back.
I stand at a safe distance to remain hidden, but link Steve and Anthony in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.Step down, I demand, sending my alpha aura to pulsate through the mind link. I’ll force them if necessary.
But they are—Anthony starts.
I know what they are and what they do. But one wrong step and we’ll ruin everything!
Anthony licks his lips nervously before a sly smile spreads across his face. “Sorry man,” he says to the warrior he just stared at viciously. “We were just teasing you, right Steve?”
Max comes forward to scan the group and their auras, checking if anyone’s tense and ready to attack my friends. Most of the warriors seem to have conflicted feelings. The exception is the two warriors Anthony and Steve are facing off with. A dangerous red aura swirls around those two. Then, without warning, Anthony’s aura changes slightly. A warm blue light seeps out of his aura and surrounds the two men in front of him. Whatever the blue is, it seems to be lulling them into calmness.
Interesting. Is this how his gift works?
“Yeah,” Steve agrees, much to my surprise. “I always get so passionate about chicks!”
“You could have joined us,” one of the guys exclaims.
Steve laughs as if everything truly had just been a joke. “I didn’t know that was an option.”
Anthony takes the cue instantly. “That girl was meh, though.” He grins dirtily. “We all know that the hottest ones are the wildest ones.” There is a glint in his eyes, and he licks his lips like a predator. “It’s always better when you need to tame them first.”
“I agree,” one of the other warriors hollers.
The tension subsides around the group. I’m not sure if all of them bought Steve and Anthony’s explanation, but some clearly did, and Anthony keeps the banter going, painting himself like he’s the biggest asshole ever.
Phew! That wasn’t so bad,Trixie mind links.
They barely held it together.I sigh.I can’t believe we need to have this talk again.
I immediately decide to retreat to our rooms until lunch to wait for everyone to return. Fortunately, it doesn’t take long. Marcel and Henry arrive first. “Before you ask,” Marcel begins. “There is not much to tell you other than there seems to be a sick gangbang party in the planning. Colton has fed his warriors a load of bullshit, making them think they truly are above everyone else.”
Henry grimaces. “They suck,” he says simply. “It’s disgusting to see the behavior they display towards women in this pack, but they do it to all the lower ranks.”
“You’re right. It’s despicable,” I agree.
“It’s not just their attitude that sucks,” Henry clarifies. “Their skills do too. These are supposed to be their best trackers?”
“He’s right,” Marcel nods. “They aren’t very good.”
“I had a similar experience,” I admit. “During training, I had to hold back so much. It’s not like they are terrible per se, but they aren’t fantastic either. Except for Arman, he is really good. Benjamin isn’t too bad either.”
“And what the fuck happened between Steve, Anthony, and the other warriors?” Henry asks.
I give them the short version of what happened and how they somehow managed to save the situation. Marcel sighs. “Honestly, I don’t know how I would have reacted in that situation,” he admits.
“That’s what unsettles me,” I agree. “We need to reconsider our original plan.”
Henry looks surprised, but before he has a chance to say anything, Anthony and Steve enter the room. Steve looks embarrassed, while Anthony masks his emotions behind his usual sassy grin.
“Have you ever been chewed out by your teacher or parent before?” he asks Steve, “Because I feel like that’s what’s going to happen now.”
Steve blinks. “I once joined my schoolmates on a dare that led us into another pack’s grounds. That’s the only time Dad ever yelled at me.”
