“You should know me by now.” I smile.
“I do, I just… can’t believe it.” She jumps up full of motivation. “And I was thinking… I could sign up for an online class to get my high school diploma. What do you think? With the workload here, and everything to do, it might not go as fast as planned, but I’d like to graduate high school at least.”
I beam at her, happy that she wants to return to her education. There is no way I wouldn’t support this. “Of course! That is a fantastic idea, Freya.”
She scurries around the room and searches for some clothes for us. Right, we’re going to need to move our stuff here. I hope Dad can convince a witch to work for us. A portal to reach Silverlake and our allies faster would be awesome.
“What about our income?” Freya asks. “Where will we get the money from? I realized I never asked you what you and your family do.”
“We deal in real estate,” I tilt my head. “I don’t see why I couldn’t open a branch for our company here too. We could advertise it as holiday homes for winter holidays and the like. I’ll pitch the idea to my father later. And I’m sure Colton did something to raise money. The pack isn’t exactly shabby. When my brother took over Red Claw, they had it much worse. I’ll look into Colton’s business, and maybe we can continue those too.”
“I think Colton traded in wood and resources,” she points out.
I nod. Makes sense in this area.
Freya turns around to look at me. “I’m ready.” She is clad in some jeans and a baggy sweater. It looks good on her, nevertheless. Her motivation finally makes me get up too. I feel a bit wobbly on my legs, an indication of what my body went through, but I also feel so much stronger and more aware of my surroundings. Like my senses were just sharpened. After a short, but hot shower, I’m also dressed properly and ready to accompany my mate and luna downstairs to the dining table.
To my joy, I notice there is more help in the kitchen. Some of the she-wolves that were prevented from entering the pack house before are now eager to help. The place is buzzing, and when Freya and I enter the dining room, I can feel all eyes on us. It seems like they almost expect me to yell at them for talking in my presence or for inviting their mates and she-wolves to join them for breakfast.
Their reaction doesn’t bother me, though—it was to be expected. I nod at my pack members, wishing them a good morning before I take Freya’s hand, and confidently stride towards my table. Soon the place is buzzing again, and through the bond to my pack, I can feel relief and joy flooding me.
Mom and Dad join us for breakfast, too, so do the twins—both sets of them—who are eager to congratulate me.
“You deserve it so much, Finn.” Elise beams at me. “And you too, Freya.”
“You’ll be awesome, man.” Anthony nods at me.
Henry smiles. “To a future alliance.”
“He is right.” Dad smiles. “Ocean Snow will finally be able to enter alliances.”
“And I’m not going to lie,” I admit. “We’ll need it.”
“So what’s the plan?” Elodie asks curiously.
“First, go through Colton’s finances. The pack’s not too big, and it’s organized well, despite everything,” I muse. It’s true; despite Colton being an asshole, the pack is not worn down. “I will look through all the documents, and Freya will organize the supplies and kitchen.”
She nods. “And also the relocation of the former slaves,” she points out.
“Then I need to inform the widows of the fallen warriors,” I muse. “And I have a rogue problem to tackle.”
“You need some ranked members fast,” Dad points out with a frown. “You can’t do all of that on your own.”
I sigh. “I haven’t talked to Anders yet,” I admit.
As if on cue Anders appears, as usual, emitting calmness and composure. It always amazes me how he can look like such a hulk but be such a kind and quiet guy. He sits down between me and Henry. “Alpha Finn,” he greets me. “Congratulations. So, where do we start, Alpha?”
I stare at him. “I’m not going to force you to move to a part of the country that’s covered in snow for eight months a year.”
“No one is forcing me,” he says calmly. “And I’m from Ireland. While it’s certainly not as cold there as it is here, I still prefer the cold over the summer heat. So unless you don’t want me to stay—” He looks skeptical all of a sudden, and almost scared of my reaction. “I would stay at your side and resume my duties.”
My gaze shifts from him to Freya, who beams at me. I smirk while I look at my father. “Found a beta already.” It will be so much easier and better with Anders at my side. He has always been my pillar of support, and I’ll need him now more than ever.
“It just bought you some time to find yourself a gamma,” Mom muses.
“I’m also thinking about finding someone for the delta position,” I point out. “I know in Silverlake we didn’t have any use for one, but with re-organizing the pack and everyone being scared of ranked members, a delta might be more approachable here.”
“Not a bad idea,” Henry says. “And you wouldn’t need to fill the position with a strong warrior either. Just someone well-liked, approachable and up for the job.”
