Freya’s scent fills my nostrils. But how is that possible?

Predator
*FREYA*
Iinstantlyrecognizethewarrior I’ve pulled into the water. He was one of the men who was with Ryllis on the night she was assaulted, and he was also one who whipped Emmanuel. I glare at him, noting how his eyes widen when he sees me. He struggles, but he has no chance against me. Water is my element, and he has no power here.
I pull him further downwards, a dark part inside me enjoying how he gurgles and screams without being heard and seeing blood ooze from his nose. He raped my best friend and many of the other girls.
There will be no mercy for him.
I let him struggle for a bit before I tear through his flesh like it’s nothing, my nails and teeth sharp enough to tear him apart while the surrounding water turns red.
No one hurts my mate.
I will kill anyone who even looks at him the wrong way.
Like a whisper in my ear, a song comes to me, a melody. In front of my inner eye, I can see a man holding a baby and humming. Is this my father? I hum the song, feeling the melody vibrate through the water.
On the surface, there is a man leaning forward until he drops into the water. A smirk curls my lips as I wait for him to dive towards me. Awesome, that’s the warrior who couldn’t keep his hands off the girls; Ryllis and Gina were two of them. I swim deeper into the depths of the sea, letting the man follow me until he gasps for air. I stop humming my song, noticing how his eyes widen in sudden fear before I approach him slowly. He struggles to get back to the surface, but I grab his leg, holding him in place. When he turns around to look at me, I can see the fear on his face. I can almost smell how scared he is.
“Nice, isn’t it?” I whisper. “To be so helpless.”
He gurgles before I rip out his throat and let him sink to the bottom of the lake.
I dash upwards again, my sights already set on my next prey as I ascend to grab him. He is looking into the lake, probably searching for the warrior I pulled underwater while my mate gets rid of the other men surrounding him.
This warrior has blood on him, and it smells like Finn. I lunge upwards, grabbing him and pulling him down with me into the depths of the lake. He wriggles and struggles against me before giving up the fight, his body going limp and lifeless.
When I ascend from the water again, Finn has freed himself from the wolves who cornered him, and he has shifted into his human form and turned his attention to the lake. Our eyes meet, his open wide, and his mouth agape. “Freya…”
I feel insecure all of a sudden as I realize Finn saw my bloodthirsty, darker side take over. I can’t believe I had it in me to be so violent.
It’s the predator in you,Sereia mutters. It was pretty amazing. Scary, but also amazing.
“It’s a long story,” I mutter.
Before I realize what’s happening, Finn leans over the water’s edge and wraps his arms around me, not even minding that he is getting wet or that I probably look like something out of a horror movie. I notice how his body shivers as the cold catches up to him, and there is a nasty wound to his side. I hiss and growl once I see it, feeling an unusual possessiveness rushing through me. He is hurt. He is mine, and someone hurt him! “Somebody hurt you!”
Finn looks at me in awe. “Yes, the man you pulled into the water.” He pauses. “You look amazing, by the way.”
“You mean creepy.”
“No, I mean amazing. My mate’s a mermaid.” He breathes out.
“Technically.” Nen’s head pops up next to me, with Aenon following suit. “We are sirens. More like predators and deadly hunters than romantic song-chanting beings with shells on our boobs.”
Finn almost moves away when he notices him, so I hurry to reassure him. “Don’t worry. They are family… I think.”
I take a deep breath, concentrating hard to force my body into its human form again. I jump out of the water, landing on my feet, and notice I’m wearing clothes. Wow, now that’s handy! If only they weren’t wet from when I fell off the cliff.
My eyes scan the area, and I blush slightly when I notice all the eyes focused on me. But Finn doesn’t allow me to remain flustered. He pulls me towards his body, a tremble going through it. “I felt something happen,” he mutters into my hair. “It felt like our bond ripped for a moment, but then…”
“It’s hard to explain,” I tell him honestly. “I’ll tell you everything later. But…” I smile brightly. “I now know what the prophecy means.”
“You got a prophecy about you?” Aenon asks dryly. “Yes, Lady Amphitrite loves them. You were probably terrified about what would happen. Am I right?”
