Dad has let us discuss our next steps while watching with a slight smile on his lips. Now he turns to look at Freya. “Where do you think Colton will run to, Freya? Where would he go to fight during an attack?”

Freya furrows her brows a bit. “Normally, he leads attackers to the lake.”

“There is a lake on the pack grounds?” I ask curiously. During my short stay there, I didn’t have time to see the whole area, it seems.

“Yes, at the eastern border,” Elias explains. He tilts his head, nodding after a while. “Thinking about it now, Freya is right. Colton tends to lead his warriors there for a fight because it gives them the advantage of the area. Enemies can’t hide anywhere there.”

“Then that’s the place we need to pay attention to in particular,” Dad orders. “We’ll take tomorrow to finish our preparations and then head out to Blood Snow the day after.”

“It means it’s going to be the night of the blue moon when we attack,” I say thoughtfully.

My parents don’t comment on my words, making me frown slightly. Liam’s right. They are definitely plotting something!

*FREYA*

The whole place is buzzing, and while everyone feels excited, I can’t help but feel anxious. So many people are putting their lives in danger because of me. Well, not only because of me, but I know the fact that I’m Finn’s mate pushed them the extra mile.

Then there is the lingering meaning of the prophecy. Finn tries to reassure me whenever I think of it, but the path of darkness scares me. Normally, I’d say I would choose the path of light, but the other path is there for a reason, and I’m scared it will be too tempting to walk away from the light.

I don’t want to succumb to the darkness.

“Here you are.” I can feel my mate’s presence, his intoxicating scent engulfing me. I’ll never grow tired of it.

I hid from the fuss and walked through one of the idyllic gardens of Silverlake. Finn joins me, entwining our fingers while we walk beside each other. “Are you worried?” he asks gently.

“Would you believe me if I said no?” I ask carefully.

“No, I can feel the anxiety through the bond.” He smiles warmly at me, sending butterflies through my stomach.

“I’m terrified,” I breathe out.

“Because of the fight?” Finn asks carefully.

“No, because of the prophecy,” I admit. When Finn opens his mouth to say something, I put my finger on his lips, shaking my head. “Please don’t. Just… allow me to have these feelings.”

Finn nods, pulling me closer to his body. “Just one thing,” he says. “The unknown is always scary, but it doesn’t need to be bad.”

“But it could be,” I point out. “Bad, I mean. It is an option we need to consider.”

He sighs. “Freya, no matter what kind of darkness the prophecy talked about, it won’t make me turn away from you. Don’t underestimate the bond we share. I strongly believe in it, and in you, and no matter what you decide, I won’t leave your side.” He traces his fingers over my mark. “Forever, remember?”

“And if I turn out to be a demon?” I ask. “Or… I don’t know, an evil witch? You said it yourself. There is something dark swirling around my aura, something you can’t perceive.”

Finn tilts his head thoughtfully. “Just because you were born a certain species, it doesn’t make you bad. You could have descended from hell, and it wouldn’t matter to me. Your actions are what make you good or bad, not your blood.”

His kind words warm my heart. I wanted to dwell in my anxiety, but here he comes, saying the sweetest things ever. “It’ll be the night of the blue moon,” I say. “When we attack.”

“Yeah, I’m starting to believe Liam is right, and my parents are plotting something,” he says with a frown.

I chuckle. His family is full of strong alphas, yet their interactions and dynamics are so funny. Liam squishing Finn like he was still little and not a powerful man himself was adorable. When I saw Liam, I thought he would be even scarier than Elden. He has this stoic expression and ice-blue eyes, looking cold and unapproachable at first glance, but he was so nice. You never truly know a person before talking to them. “Even if they are plotting something,” I say. “It can’t be bad.”

“Yeah, I bet it’s still something unexpected, though.” Finn furrows his brows. “Liam’s right. Why are they both tagging along? Normally one of them stays behind to protect the pack, but this time, they are both joining us, and Dad is just leaving his beta to protect the pack.”

“Is that unusual?” I want to know.

“In general… not so much,” Finn explains. “There are times an alpha and luna have to visit a place together, and a beta is like a second in command, so the pack isn’t unprotected. It’s just unusual for my parents.”

“Let me repeat your own words,” I say with a smile. “They might be plotting something, but just because we don’t know what it is, it doesn’t need to be bad.”
