But Freya,Sereia snorts.I’ve always been real. You know you haven’t been talking to just any crazy voice in your head, don’t you?
I know, I know,I hurry to reassure her.Just, I can see you now, and that makes me so happy. You look so beautiful, Sereia.
Sereia seems to be happy. My human. She chuckles.I’m so lucky to have you. You look hot, by the way. Our mate will be pleased once he sees you.She smirks.Or maybe not, because I’m sure you will catch some other glances today. Hmm. Perhaps he will go all alpha on us once he realizes.
Alright, my horny wolf. Before she can talk me into seeking Finn out and having him dominate us, as she calls it, I decide to step out of our apartment and see where I can find breakfast. True to Finn’s words, his beta, Anders, is already waiting for me, though I didn’t know he would be so early.
“Good morning, Miss Freya.” He smiles kindly at me. He seems to be a quiet and reserved yet kind man. He is bulky and a redhead. I instantly like that about him. We gingers need to stay united!
“Good morning, Beta Anders,” I answer politely. “I didn’t know you would be here already. I hope you weren’t waiting too long.”
“Not at all.” He smiles. “And please call me Anders.”
“Only if you drop the Miss too,” I say, noting how my words unsettle him. He seems to be a bit stuck on the hierarchy.
“I’ll try to,” he finally says. “Lord Finn asked me to make sure you get some breakfast. It just so happens that your friend Miss Amaryllis and the young Mr. Steve are also ready for breakfast now.”
I beam at him. “That sounds fantastic. It’s like we are a little group.”
Once Anders has led me to the private dining room, I see Ryllis and Steve are already waiting for me. To my surprise, Trixie is here too—she had disappeared for the last two days since we arrived, but now she seems to be back from wherever she went.
I pull Ryllis into a hug, noticing how happy she looks. She practically has little hearts and stars in her eyes when she looks at her mate. Goodness, they are so sweet. Anders sits down with us too. When Ryllis eyes him curiously, I hurry to introduce him. “This is Anders, and he is Finn’s beta,” I explain.
Ryllis shifts around a bit but looks at Anders directly, much to my surprise. She usually tends to avoid looking at others. She is progressing so much. “It’s nice to meet you, Beta Anders.”
“The honor is mine,” Anders answers politely.
“Freya,” Ryllis starts after a while. “Steve and I will be going to Moon Blood today or tomorrow. That’s his pack.”
My eyes widen. “Really?” I exclaim, barely able to contain my joy. Of course, I’m sad to see her leave. She is my best friend and like a little sister, but seeing that she is comfortable enough with her mate to leave with him is such significant progress for her. It outweighs any sadness I feel. And she won’t be out in the world alone. Finn and Steve are close friends, and their packs are allies. I’m sure we’ll see each other plenty, especially now that we both found our freedom.
Ryllis nods, a tiny smile on her lips. She takes Steve’s large hand in hers, blushing slightly when he kisses her knuckles. Goddess, I’m swooning. My girl got a strong yet kind mate, a fluffy marshmallow.
“I’m so happy for you,” I exclaim.
She beams at me. “Really?”
“Of course,” I reassure her. “I’ll be sad not to have you around every day, but I’ve heard great things about Moon Blood, and Steve’s family seems so sweet. Alpha Celine will be a great alpha for you too.”
Ryllis’ eyes light up. “I told Steve I like flowers, and we’ve been talking. He says I can get into a school for gardening if I want to.”
Steve listens to us talk and doesn’t intervene, but I can notice how his eyes shine full of love and joy whenever Ryllis talks about their future life and about her own plans. When we left Blood Snow together, I was scared that it might have been too late for her, that Colton and the pack hurt her beyond repair, but I’m so glad we made it out when we did. It was just in time! She can still learn to leave it all behind. She has a mate who clearly loves her and accepts her the way she is.
After breakfast, Steve and Anders leave us alone for a while, sensing that we might want to talk. They were right because Ryllis has more to share with me. “When we were at the infirmary,” she starts while we sit on a sofa. “The doctor there talked to me and suggested that I see a therapist. I… I already talked to Annie too. Steve called her for me, and she said she’ll make sure I can see someone in Moon Blood.”
“That’s a great idea,” I say softly.
“Steve’s parents will be there, and they are already so eager for us to join them. They are such kind people… I think… I might… maybe… I’ll finally find a family.” Her eyes widen when she looks at me. “Please don’t misunderstand me, Freya. I love you; you are like a big sister to me. You are family and will always remain family.”
I take her hands, squeezing them. “Don’t worry, Amaryllis. I understand, and you deserve to have loving in-laws, and I’m sure they will treat you like you were their own.”
I hope so much for her to finally be in the arms of a loving family. I don’t know Steve’s family well yet, but I spent a day with Annie and saw their parents greet Steve and Ryllis. They seem like good people.
For the next hour, we walk around the pack area and make plans for the future. Once Finn and Steve join us for lunch, we present them with an entire schedule of double dates. “I’ll be happy to go on a date with my pretty apple pie,” Steve says softly and kisses the side of Ryllis’ head.
“I prefer a date in the bedroom,” Finn teases. “But these are fine too.”
I laugh and smack his shoulder while Ryllis looks at me wide-eyed and slightly flustered, but then she smiles brightly at me.
