“I don’t know; I have a bad feeling,” I mutter. Ever since we came here, I noticed how restless Max is, and it’s not just because we found our mate. He is on alert, and that’s very rare for him. “My wolf pushes me to be careful.”

Marcel looks worried now. “We’ll take turns.”

I nod. “I’ll stay awake until Elodie and Henry return. The rest of you can go to sleep for now.”

“We haven’t heard back from Trixie yet,” Steve states in worry.

“That’s not unusual for fairies,” I reassure him, remembering how Mom told me about their kind. She always had a mysterious connection to them. “She has a mission now, to spy on you-know-who. She’ll probably only return when she has relevant info. Fairies are very independent creatures. The fact that she hasn’t returned yet isn’t bad. It just means nothing bad has happened yet.”

Steve allows my words to sink in before he nods. I toss Marcel a reassuring gaze before he retreats and gets ready for bed. Meanwhile, I sit down on my own bed, leaning against the bedrest. It’s time to update my father and Liam once more. I don’t know how often I’ll be able to contact them once we leave, so better now than never.

Most of the time, my mind rests with my mate, though. I wonder if Freya is alright and if she is asleep already. I wish I could hold her in my arms! I’ve been looking so long for my mate, longing for her. When I turned seventeen and was about to have my first intimate encounter with a girl—I decided not to. We were both at a party, and she was cute. I could have gone through with it.

But I wanted to wait for my mate. I wanted her to be my first. Something warm fills my chest when I think of Freya. I can’t wait to know more about her and take her away from this awful place. I’ll make sure that from this day on, she’ll be safe and live a happy life.

First, we have to get her out of here, lover-boy,Max grumbles, pacing around restlessly.

Who are you calling lover-boy? You have been swooning non-stop over her since we met her,I tease.

Well, she is wonderful. He beams at me before plopping down and rolling on his back, stretching his paws into the air.And her wolf has quite the personality too. Oh, Sereia…

Is that her wolf’s name?I ask curiously.

Yes, beautiful, isn’t it? Freya and Sereia. It rhymes like a poem. Isn’t it beautiful?

Yes, it is.Warmth fills me.Hopefully, she will soon be safe.

One more day. I will give us one more day; then we have to leave this place for real.

*FINN*

MarcelandItaketurns guarding our room. Fortunately, Henry and Elodie weren’t out for long, but what they tell us is worrying. I make sure to wake everyone up, so they can hear everything. They say a group of young warriors met with the alpha’s heir, Benjamin. They were drinking and chatting at first, then Benjamin retreated.

The warriors kept partying, though, talking about how they originally wanted to order a bunch of girls soon for their personal pleasure. It seems like Alpha Asshole forbid their gangbang party because we are still around. Behind closed doors, they can do as they please, though.

“They talked about us too,” Elodie explains to all of us, much to my horror. “They don’t like us. They think we’ve already seen too much of their pack and their rituals. They think we are undermining the alpha’s power by our presence.”

Henry nods. “They further claimed we wouldn’t understand the importance of their rights and how we weren’t chosen by the Goddess. We are unworthy outsiders, sullying their sacred pack grounds.”

“You’re joking,” Steve mutters.

Henry shakes his head. “I wish I were.”

“And Benjamin?”

“Didn’t stay for long,” Elodie explains. “Once he was gone, they were commenting on how closed off he is recently. They don’t like his new attitude.”

I frown. “So, the warriors are aware that they are doing something shady here, and they participate willingly in their alpha’s shitshow?” I ask coldly. It’s one thing to be forced to do something by their alpha, but another that they participate willingly.

“They are absolutely into it,” Henry growls. “Like, you should have heard how they talked about the slaves. It was disgusting.”

“He’s right. It made me feel sick,” Elodie agrees. “Finn, we can’t stay here any longer. After what I heard, now I agree with you even more. We know enough. This pack is not subtle at all with their crimes, and they even seem to be proud of them. Elise and I can fill in Eric and the Council on what happened. No need to overstay our welcome.”

“Would it be an option to get rid of the head of the serpent?” I ask with a frown. I’m confident we could easily overpower Colton, and my hands are itching to end him. He hit my mate. He made her suffer. The fucker needs to go down!
