“My wolf and I don’t care,” he interrupts me.

“But I’m a slave here. I’m like a prisoner. You can’t just take me away from here,” I say sadly. “The alpha won’t allow it. He’d rather kill me and—”

He furrows his brows. “No one will touch you,” he huffs. “I’ll take you with me even if I have to burn this place down.”

“But—”

“Freya, stop trying to convince me that I can’t be with you because it’s not working. I’ll literally rip this place apart for you,” he says with so much confidence that I feel hope filling me too.

“You’re definitely not a normal warrior, and you’re not a beta’s heir either,” I point out once more. This time, I don’t even need Sereia to tell me. I feel it myself.

He tilts his head. “I don’t want to lie to you, Freya, but please allow me to keep this secret for now. It could put all of our lives in danger. Once we are away from here, I’ll answer all of your questions. Everything you want to know.”

So, he did come here on a secret mission. Sereia’s intuition was right. Maybe someone sent him here to spy on our pack. Finally, finally, someone from the outside is interested in us!

Finn flashes me a grin. “The fiery look in your eyes suits you well. So…just to make this official, allow me to follow standard protocol.” He pauses, looking at me intently. “What’s your full name?”

“I don’t know my full name. It’s just Freya.”

“Alright, that’ll do.” He smiles reassuringly at me. “I, Finn Alcott, accept you, Freya, as my mate.”

My eyes widen as I feel a sudden wave of warmth flow into me through the mate bond.

He just fucking accepted me as his mate! There‘s no turning back once a person accepts you. He can’t just change his mind. I mean…the bond can still be broken, but not as easily as if we hadn’t accepted each other yet.

Repeat his words,Sereia urges me, her joy so contagious it makes me smile. And accept him too.

I don’t know one thing about him. We’ve only spoken a handful of words to each other so far, and nothing of any depth. But I know I have to make this leap.

“I, Freya, accept you, Finn Alcott, as my mate.”

The warmth I felt before grows even more powerful. All manner of feelings washes over me as I become engulfed by the full force of the mate bond. It’s so intense it takes my breath away. Finn looks pleased with me, bending down to kiss my forehead.

His eyes gloss over before turning back to normal a second later. He looks worried. “I should be able to link with you now,” he says, concerned by his inability to connect with me.

“Oh, they prevent all slaves and omegas from mind linking,” I explain. “We’re not just given wolfsbane; we’re also injected with another potion every month.”

“What?” he almost roars.

His outburst should scare me, but I find it incredibly endearing that he’s so upset for my sake. He takes a deep breath, willing his anger to die down. “We’ll make sure you’re back to full strength as soon as we’re out of here,” he says with conviction. “Alright, Freya, I need a plan to get us all out of here unscathed,” he mutters, more to himself than for my benefit. “Tell me what I can do to keep you out of the spotlight for the next couple of days.”

I wrack my brain to remember the schedule Alpha Colton put together for the visitors. “Today, we are safe, as everyone is busy, probably for the next few days as well. From what I know, the alpha has ordered his men to keep a low profile, but there’s always a risk that they’ll fall back into their usual habits. There’s a banquet being held for you and your friends in a few days. You could ask for my services then,” I tell him. For once, I’m glad that shithead Alpha Colton placed his command on me. It won’t raise any suspicions if I come here for supposed sexual services and act like a meek little girl. “The girls you saw with me. We’ve all been ordered to pleasure you and your friends. It won’t raise any suspicions if you ask for me.” I pause, eyeing him hopefully. There is one more thing I need to ask of my mate, and I need him to agree if I’m going to fully trust he has my best interest at heart. “Also, if you could ask for a girl named Amaryllis? I would be eternally grateful. I know you don’t have to…but she is like my sister…and she’s all I have.”

“You can count on me,” he promises. “I’ll ask for both of you. What does Amaryllis look like?”

“She is easily the prettiest—”

“You’re the prettiest,” he interrupts me.

His words make me smile. He’s got to be delusional to think I’m pretty. Delusional, but cute. “She is the cutest of us all. You’ll be able to spot her easily as the warriors like her the most and tend to leer at her in ways no girl wants to be looked at. She will be wearing a rose-colored dress during the banquet.”

“Got it,” Finn nods. He seems a little upset, though I’m not sure why. As his eyes still seem gentle to me, I figure it’s probably not anything to do with me. His eyes linger on my face a moment before darkening to almost black, a growl leaving his suddenly furious lips. He cups my chin, bending down to look closer at my face. “Who did that?” he demands sharply, tilting my head slightly to inspect the left side of my face. I’d covered it with makeup, but I'm guessing close up, he can probably see the bruise shimmering through. “This bruise. Did someone strike you?” He will not like the rest of my story if he’s already upset at a single slap I’ve received. “It’s nothing,” I say, and in a way, I mean it. It really is nothing. We’re used to much worse.

“Was it Alpha Colton?” he demands to know.

I nod, his eyes turning black once more. He seems caught in an internal debate before his eyes gradually turn back to their usual color.

“I really need to get you out of here,” he huffs, wrapping his arms around me possessively. Goddess, he is so sexy. I swear, even his nose hair is hot! “Trust me; I won’t allow anyone to lay their hands on you ever again.”
