Edward’s jaw tenses at my words. He looks grim. “Pathetic,” he huffs. “Only a pathetic alpha would abuse his strength and power like that.”
“He is right,” Flora says quietly. “Colton surrounded himself with men of his mindset, and he made sure to allow them to climb in rank. He is probably very manipulative.”
“Doesn’t he have a son too?” Aurel asks.
“Benjamin,” I explain. “I hated him with a passion. What a prick. But…” I sigh. “I’m almost positive Colton beat him constantly.”
Flora looks at me insistently. “Freya, I need to know this now; did he ever participate in raping the slaves?”
“No, not that I know of,” I admit quietly. “He was certainly violent, but the sex parties… he usually skipped them.”
“Do we need to keep him alive?” Edwards asks in a matter-of-fact tone.
Flora nods. “Elden and Finn want him to survive. He won’t be able to stay here, and will probably be stripped of his powers and rank, but they want to see if he is redeemable.”
“And what do you think?” I ask curiously.
“I told Elden I’m only going to agree if he didn’t rape or kill anyone.”
I nod absent-mindedly. Benjamin is like a dark chapter of my life that I don’t want to revisit. Not because he rejected me, but because of what he meant to my life, of what he stood for. A tiny part of me feels sorry for him because I’m sure Colton abused him. I know he would sometimes appear with bruises on his body, which I’m sure he didn’t get from training.
But Benjamin was also my worst tormentor as if he had some personal vendetta against me.
“Benjamin will not be your problem anymore,” Flora tells me, interpreting my silence correctly. “You’ll never have to see him again, talk to him or interact with him.”
“Thank you,” I say quietly. I turn to look at Flora. “Say, Flora, it’s the blue moon night now and—”
“SHH!” Edward hushes us. His body tenses, as does Aurel’s, and he immediately takes up his stance in front of his luna.
“Stay back,” Aurel tells us.
I’m not sure if it’s because Sereia is still weakened or because I’m an omega, but I can only feel their presence when they leave the tree line. A group of eight men, led by…
“Who’s that?” Edward asks, alarmed.
“Colton’s beta,” I answer nervously. “Raymond.”
“Stay out of danger, Luna,” Aurel instructs. “We’ll give you and Freya time to get through the portal and—”
“Like hell we’ll be going,” Flora says with conviction and steps forward, crossing her arms.
Raymond bursts into laughter while he approaches us, his eyes locked on Flora. He seems to find her highly amusing. My heart sinks slightly when I notice that the men who accompany him are the elite warriors of Blood Snow. “Our alpha was right,” Raymond snickers, halting a few meters in front of us. “Ever since the attack broke out, he figured that it was the little bitch who had returned to save her pathetic friends. But now we have a luna here too. With her as a hostage, we can easily destroy her alpha.”
I notice some of the men holding guns, probably with silver bullets. Edward seems to think the same because he keeps pushing me back to get me out of the line of fire.
“If we capture the Luna, we’ll easily win this fight.” Raymond laughs, revealing his gross yellow teeth.
“And who are you?” Flora sounds completely unimpressed.
He furrows his brows. “A peculiar woman,” he muses.
“You are a peculiar woman?” Flora asks in return.
Raymond glares at her. “I was talking about you. You’re pleasing to the eye; maybe my alpha will allow me to taste you before he has his way with you.”
Flora bursts into laughter, her eyes tearing up while she cackles in amusement. Raymond looks at her like she has lost her mind, but she can’t seem to calm down. She grabs Aurel’s arm. “Did you hear that, Aurel?” she giggles.
“I did, Luna,” Aurel says, but his tone lacks any humor. It’s deadly.
