I swallow down all my conflicted feelings. “I heard you’re joining us for battle,” I tell him. “The more capable wolves, the better.”

Matthew stares at me wide-eyed. He obviously hadn’t expected my approach, and he probably thought I would either punch or yell at him or both.

This guy does not need anyone to yell at him. He hates himself so much; it almost hurts seeing him.

“Yes,” Matthew stutters. “I’ll try to help as much as I can.”

Anthony punches his shoulder playfully. “Just don’t slack off now.”

“He is right.” Henry glances at him. “We’ll need everyone at the top of their game.”

Matthew nods. “I won’t disappoint you,” he promises before Henry sends him back to the other warriors.

“Thanks,” Anthony tells me. “Honestly, I wasn’t sure how you’d react, but you’ve always been the bigger person.”

“That’s not it,” I mutter. “He looks broken. And I’m not going to kick a hurt pup. He has punished himself already; I don’t want him to see this as a suicide mission. Just make sure that we won’t need to scratch the remainder of his body off the ground once the battle is over,” I tell the twins with a tentative smile.

“He is a gamma’s son,” Henry explains. “He is a capable fighter.”

“And I think the fact that you didn’t hit him helped him a lot.” Anthony chuckles.

“The fact that he has friends who call him out for his shit and still have his back helps him far more,” I tell them, noting in amusement how the twins seem embarrassed by my words. I decide to tackle another sore topic too. “Did you talk to your father?”

“No.” Henry shakes his head. “But we plan to do so after we take down Colton.”

“We still need to gather our courage.” Anthony sighs. “That’s not going to be a pleasant talk.”

“It’s good that you’re telling him,” I reassure them. “Then you can all stop beating around the bush, especially with the baby coming.”

Anthony beams at me. “I can’t believe we’re going to have a little bean jumping around the pack house.”

“Yeah, Tony and I always wanted siblings.” Henry smiles. “Now we have someone we can pamper and spoil endlessly.”

I’m relieved to see and hear that they have no ill feelings towards their sibling and Janice, but their hatred has always been more toward themselves than their parents. Janice has always loved them unconditionally, and it’s paying off now, as the twins are genuinely happy for her.

“I’m very glad we had that trip with you beforehand,” Anthony admits sheepishly. “I think if we found out about Mom’s pregnancy without having you kick our asses before, we’d… I don’t know… we’d still be happy for them, but…”

“We wouldn’t be happy for ourselves,” Henry concludes.

“Look at you being all grown up.” I grin. “Whose butt am I going to kick now?”

“Don’t you have any younger siblings?” Anthony chuckles.

“Yeah.” I snort. “Good thing I don’t need to retire as a bigger brother yet, though Aurelia certainly doesn’t need any ass-kicking at all.”

“Oh, yes.” Anthony flashes me a grin. “Instead, your hot sister is the one who kicks asses.”

I groan.

“What?” Henry chuckles. “He is right. Never seen such a beauty before.”

“Though the oracle from Blood Snow was hot too,” Anthony points out. “Arman’s sister… Leila was her name.”

“Oh yes, that was a beauty to behold,” Henry admits.

“It’s hard to decide who’s taking the mantle, though. Leila seems to be so beautiful… like out of a commercial. And Aurelia is just freaking hot, athletic, and kickass. Her and Leila in one room or one bed.” Anthony sighs dreamily.

“Alright, guys,” I clap my hands. “I’m so close to kicking your butts again. Literally.”
