I bite my lips slightly, rolling my hips again, slowly to feel every movement inside me and have him feel it all. I lift my upper body, moaning when I feel Finn taking advantage of the moment to attach his lips to one of my nipples. His hands glide down my back and towards my ass, and he slaps one of my cheeks, making me moan.

I pick up the pace of my hips, feeling how he is pushing up against me, meeting my thrusts midway. The new position adds more friction for both of us, making us groan and moan in pleasure. Finn grabs me by my neck to pull me into yet another kiss while pushing up against me relentlessly. I can feel the electricity of our bond doing its magic, something in my lower belly tightening slightly as I approach my climax. My body feels like it’s on fire shortly before a wave of pleasure hits me, making me shudder. It’s like I’m falling. My walls clench around his length while I ride out my orgasm. “Finn,” I moan.

Finn grabs my hips tighter, pushing into me a few more times before I feel his cum filling my insides. We both pant heavily for a moment; then I drop on top of him. It takes a while for us both to catch our breath. Finn’s still inside me, and although my body is aching a little, I love the feeling of him still in me. Before I get too sore, though, he carefully pulls out of me.

“Freya,” he breathes out. “Babe, this was hot! The thing you did with your hips… that was magical.”

A contented smile appears as I place a kiss against his chest. I allow my fingers to twist one of his nipples, making him groan. “And I love how I found a sensitive spot,” I whisper.

He smirks. “Just wait for my payback.”

I grin slightly. Honestly I can’t wait, but I’m not going to tell him that. Before sleep can engulf us, there is something else I want to tell him, though. “Thank you, Finn,” I say into the silence.

“What for?” He sounds surprised.

“I know you don’t want me to be close to Blood Snow when you attack. Thank you for listening to me nevertheless and for understanding how important this is for me.” I pause. “I don’t know how to fight, and will not join any action willingly. But the prophecy keeps lingering in my mind. I need to be there.”

“I know,” he says quietly. “To be honest, I’m not happy. I wish I could keep you away from it all, but you’re my mate, and this is your battle too. I can’t take it from you. But I trust you not to do anything reckless.” He looks at me, his eyes are serious now. “You have nothing to prove to anyone. Just promise me.”

I nod. “I promise, Finn.”

“I just found you,” he whispers. “I can’t lose you already.”

“The same goes for me: I just found you, and furthermore, I found my life. There is so much worth living for now. I won’t just throw it all away.” I place another kiss against his chest. “Promise me you’ll be careful too.”

He smiles. “I promise.”

“Is Steve going to join the battle?” I ask. I know he is one of Finn’s closest friends, but Ryllis only just started healing, and I’m not sure how she will cope being on her own.

“I talked to him,” Finn admits. “Steve felt torn about it. He wants to join the battle, but Amaryllis’ well-being is more important to him. He is scared she might spiral downwards when he is not around.”

I perk up. “He is going to stay with her instead!”

“Sometimes we need to make a choice,” Finn says. “And I think he is making the right one.”

I feel relief settle inside me. I have my fair share of anxieties, but I don’t want to imagine how Ryllis feels. Things were so much worse for her in Blood Snow.

“Freya,” Finn pauses, eyeing me cautiously. “They raped her, didn’t they?”

“They had these parties sometimes,” I explain sadly. “And sometimes they’d order girls to these gatherings. I found Ryllis after one of these nights, and she was so broken.” I feel a shiver going down my spine. I never allowed myself to dwell on these thoughts or the memory of that morning when I found my best friend still tied to the bed. I couldn’t save her. I wanted to, but I couldn’t. Maybe if I had come earlier, or if I ran away with her sooner. Finn pulls me closer to his body as I sob into his chest.

“No one will ever hurt her again,” Finn whispers while stroking my shoulders softly. “And no one will hurt you again. I’ll make sure of it.”

Our talk leaves me drained, yet I’m glad I finally could let my worries out. I’m relieved that Steve will stay to protect his mate and my best friend, and ensure she gets the help she needs instead of engaging in a battle to feed his hunger for revenge. Resting peacefully in Finn’s arms, I allow my weariness to overcome me and lull me into a dreamless sleep.

*FINN*

Two days now we have spent preparing for everything and briefing our warriors. Freya has been of great help. It’s true that she lacks experience and hasn’t seen much of the outside yet, but she brings a different perspective to the table, which is important too. She is not afraid to ask questions, and once again amazes me with how strong she is.

There is one person she still has to meet, though. Celine has made sure to send him over to us. He will obviously join our fight too, but today I want him to meet Freya. I have prepared coffee for our guests, and Freya has taken it upon herself to organize some cake. She wanted to mingle with the staff and pack mates more, which I wholeheartedly support. Aurelia volunteered to help us and went with Freya.

Now they are both back, and my two favorite girls—my mate and my sister—are sitting together chatting. I’ve dreamed of this moment for so long, of having my mate with me, that sometimes I still can’t believe I’ve found her.

A knock on the door interrupts us. I easily recognize the scent of my brother, a surprise visitor. I didn’t expect him to come. “Come in,” I say.

“Hello, little brother,” Marius exclaims when he enters. He grins. “Surprised?”

“Yes, I certainly didn’t expect you,” I say dryly.
