Noah didn’t love her… but the truth was that she loved him. And she couldn’t run away from that fact any longer. She loved Noah, truly. She loved their witty conversations, his laugh and his smile, and the way he made love to her. She wanted a life with him.

And he… well, he didn’t feel the same.

She couldn’t do this. She couldn’t marry Noah. Not like this. Not if he didn’t love her back.

Sophie wanted a marriage built on mutual love. She wanted to marry someone who wanted to be a father. She wanted her children to grow up knowing that their parents were in love.

If Noah wanted to be involved, they could co-parent, but she couldn’t bring herself to raise this child in a one-sided fake marriage.

She went to Noah’s room and knocked but there was no answer. She had a card for his room so she opened it. The room was empty. He must not be here yet.

Her heart was pounding. What was she going to do?

Sophie saw a pen and a paper on the desk and grabbed it. She began writing.

It would be easier this way, anyway…

I’m sorry, Noah.

CHAPTER31

NOAH

“What do you mean, you can’t find her?”

Amy shrugged helplessly. “I don’t know. She said she would be right back—”

“How long?” he demanded.

She cringed. “An hour.”

Noah felt his stomach drop.

No!

He left the room and headed back to his own. His heart was beating through his chest. Noah reread the note.

Noah,

I’m so, so sorry, but I can’t go through with this.

I thought that I could do this alone, that I could love our child enough for the two of us. And I can. But the truth is, I don’t want to. I want a life with you. One that isn’t fake.

The truth is that I love you, Noah.

And I know it wasn’t what you planned and that you don’t return my affections. I want you to know that I don’t hold that against you. In the same way that I hope you will not hold this against me.

I’m sorry I fell in love with you. I’m sorry I couldn’t be who you needed me to be. And I’m sorry that you can’t be the man that I want you to be. It’s just who we are.

Please don’t hate me,

Soph

He was going to be sick. Sophie was leaving him. Hadlefthim.

Noah stormed out of the room. He passed Bradley in the hallway but kept moving.

“Is everything okay?” Bradley shouted after him.
