“It’s an honor to be called anything if you’re a part of the organization. If I marry a made man, maybe I will get a name.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes. That is so.”

If that wasn’t a hint, I didn’t know what would be. It fell short of a marriage proposal, but I knew I could fuck her if I wanted to. The actual act of infidelity didn’t turn me on. The power I had as an underboss was what made my cock hard. Trying to not change into someone and something I didn’t recognize was becoming harder and harder.

My brain thought about violence. My body stiffened when presented with lust-filled stares from women who knew who I was and the power I possessed.

“Lolita, I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow. I need a few hours of sleep.”

“Of course you do. Lord, have sweet dreams and I hope you dream about me.”

I couldn’t respond to that, so I just said. “Good night.” Instead, before disconnecting the phone call. My body was more exhausted than I thought and it didn’t take me long to fall asleep.

Chapter Eight

LORDES

After a late breakfast, Cenzo and I adjourned to Nicco’s office for the meetings. I had grown used to this part of the tedious job. I basically had to stand behind my brother and glare menacingly at whoever dared to enter his office. I always wore a long-sleeved pale colored shirt. Sometimes, I wore a white shirt. I wanted all who entered to see the gun I had inside a holster in the pit of my shoulder.

Cenzo stood on the other side of Nicco with his gun on display at his waist holster. We both were just a show. Everyone who entered the penthouse was ushered to the office had been thoroughly searched twice before they could lay eyes on the Don. All of it was a bit theatrical, but it showed unity and force.

One of the security guards let the first victim into the office and he closed the door behind them. Almost everyone that entered had the nervous shakes. We played this gangster stuff up to a new level. We wore the tough guy persona so well; I think it was no longer a mask, but our reality. They had been wise guys longer than me, but I blended in so well with this lifestyle. It came second nature to me.

To my surprise, the first visitor was an attractive young woman with a sleeping baby in a stroller. I knew her, but I really didn’t know her. I’d seen this lady around the casino. She was an employee at the Palladium.

“I’m sorry Mr. Bregoli. I had to bring my baby. I didn’t have a babysitter.”

“That’s fine. I love babies. Come. Sit.” Nicco waved the young red head woman forward.

She parked her baby stroller next to the chair. Then lowered her petite body down into the leather seat.

Nicco leaned forward. “Farrah, this is quite a surprise. How can I help you?”

“Ah, Mr. Bregoli, I’m sorry to trouble you, but I was hoping I could ask you for a job.”

“A job?”

I thought she worked at the casino. Did she need a second job?

“Yes, sir.”

“You work here.” Nicco said. “For me, at the Palladium.”

I was happy my memory hadn’t failed me. I’d seen her on the casino room floor. I’m sure she moved around, but I recalled seeing her at the blackjack table.

“I know, but I’m having some trouble with someone on the workroom floor.”

“Trouble?”

“Yes, sir, I don’t want any trouble. I want to just leave town and work somewhere else. Maybe somewhere new, somewhere secret.”

“Secret?” Nicco leaned back in his chair.

“Yes sir, the farther away, the better.”

“I don’t understand.” He didn’t understand, and I didn’t either. “Are you in trouble with the police?”
