“Yes, so be nice. They are young. Give them some grace.”

Khia scoffed. “I will try, but if they start talking about Lil Baby, DaBaby, Short Baby, Tall Baby or Boo-Boo the Baby, I’m going to snap.”

“I’m going to steer all conversations away from rappers.”

“If the two words, Kanye and West, comes out of they mouth, I’m flipping tables.”

“There will be no flipping of the tables, ma’am. You’re a wife and a mother.”

“Back in Woodridge, not here in Vegas.”

“Chill, they’re from Chicago, so I’m sure Yé will not come from their mouths.”

“Southside or Westside?”

“I think Westside, but I don’t know much about these ladies.”

“Uh, okay.” Khia twisted her lips.

We stepped out of the elevator and were escorted over to our reserved table. Alexis and Brittany were seated and waiting for us. Both sisters stood to greet us with welcoming hugs. After brief introductions, we all sat down at the table.

“We’re early.” Alexis chimed. “I was excited you invited us to meet up.”

“Yeah, sorry, it took so long the set something up. I was superbusy, working and looking for a house.” I gave her my lame excuse, hoping it didn’t sound disingenuous.

“I’m so glad y’all here. I’m hungry.” Brittany squeaked.

“We are too.” I added because the little snaps I prepared earlier didn’t really fill Khia and me up. We wanted some real food.

“I haven’t had anything since breakfast.” Khia told the girls. I was so happy so opened her mouth. My sister was known to act funny with new people.

“Well, let’s get order food. My stomach is in my back.” Brittany raised her hand in the air and waved. A male waiter rushed over and took all of our orders. When he left the table, we all sat in silence for a moment.

“Khia, how long are you staying here in town?” Brittany asked. When I invited them to dinner, I’d told them I was bringing my sister from out of town.

“I’m just here for the weekend. I have to get back home to my husband and kids.”

“How many kids do you have?” Brittany inquired, keeping the conversation flowing naturally.

“I have two, a boy and a girl.”

“Do you like being a mother?” Brittany asked.

“About ninety percent of the time. Maybe it’s more like eighty.” Khia corrected with a snicker.

“I’m not being nosey. I swear I’m not. I think I might be pregnant.” Brittany dropped her bomb on the group.

“Oh.” Khia offered, just as surprised as I was. The only difference was I was speechless.

“I’m not sure yet. I took one of them home pregnancy test but I don’t know. It looked like it said pregnant to me.” Brittany shrugged.

“Do you want a baby?” Oh Lord, my sister was asking questions with her nosy ass.

Brittany shrugged. “I don’t know. It wasn’t planned, and I wasn’t even thinking about being a mother, but—” Brittany finished her statement with a shrug.

“Do you have the support of the father?” Khia had yet another question.

“I didn’t tell him, cause I’m not one hundred percent sure yet.”
