Chapter Three

LORDES

Itrailed behind Nicco. We walked down a long darkened hallway that lead to a huge room that was more like a vast library instead of a stuffy office.

“This is your office?” I asked in awe. The place was impressive, spacious and like something out of a museum.

“Yes, and I have all the paintings and books to impress the bitches.” He arched one eyebrow. “Have a seat.” He extended his hand to the brown leather chair that sat a few inches in front of his grand desk.

When he sat back in this chair, I did the same. “Why did I have to come to fucking Vegas?” A valid question because I didn’t even know this man that he called my father, our father. Whatever. Fuck Dom! I didn’t care that he’s dead, and I was sure Nicco, the new boss, knew as much.

Nicco sucked his teeth and tilted his head. “Our father wanted you here.”

The wordsof our fatherenraged me, but I kept my cool. “You mean your fucking father?”

“Lord.” He shook his head at me like I was being a disobedient child.

“I never claimed him and he never claimed me. There’s no proof that man was my father.” Why did I say that? I looked just like the man. Even Gram said there was a striking resemblance between the bastard and me.

“Are you serious right now?” Nicco raised an eyebrow.

“Very serious.” I affirmed. Although I didn’t have any proof of my seriousness.

“I know you are aware there is proof. Dom tested your DNA years ago when you were a kid. He showed me the test results when I was a teenager and that’s why I reached out to you.”

“So fucking what?”

Nicco glared at me from across his desk. “Even though you never claimed me as a brother, I always thought of you as my brother.”

“Fine, we’re related. Why am I here?” I asked again, hoping he gave me more than this random bullshit he spewed.

“You know, deep down, you are a Bregoli. You can deny it. But it’s a fact. You look more like Dom than any of us. You’re the spitting image of father.”

“Okay, so fucking what?” I found myself repeating myself. “Dom is my biological sperm donor. He didn’t raise me. We never had a relationship. I’m not even sure. He may have raped my mother.” Why did I say that? I knew it not to be true. Gram wouldn’t lie to me.

“You know, and I know, he seduced your mother, just like all the other women. He never forced himself on anyone. Just like you, pretty boy, women fall at his feet. You’re his fucking twin, only difference is with blue eyes and blonde hair.”

“What’s the point of all of this? You called. I came. I’m here. What do you want? Am I supposed to pay my respects or something for the man that abandoned me?”

“I don’t care what you do. You can spit on his grave. You can piss on his headstone if you like. You have too much hostility toward our father, and you need to get over it. Leave the past in the fucking past. He’s dead now. That chapter of your life is over.”

I held back a chuckle. “That chapter has never begun for me.”

“Lord, you can hate him, but you can’t hate us. The Bregoli’s, we’re your family.”

“What fucking family? You mean your brothers and sister? The ones that don’t even know I exist!” I rushed to my feet. I wanted to flee, but I didn’t know my way around this enormous penthouse.

“I know you exist.” Nicco stood and pointed at himself. “I know you’re my brother, a Bregoli.” Nicco walked round the desk and stopped only inches from me.What was he doing?

“I hate when you say that.” I locked eyes with him. I needed to win this battle. “I’m not a fucking Bregoli. I’m a Donovan.”

“Not in your heart.” Nicco pounded me on my chest once with his closed fist. “It’s not in your veins. You’re one of us.”

“Bullshit!”

“Stop running from us.”

“Running? I’m here. Reluctantly, I might add. You didn’t leave me much of a choice. You made it clear I had to get on your jet or something bad would happen. You threatened me with your urgent words.”
