“I know. I just. Someone died. I’m sorry. Your father died. I just, just, I never met him and then he just gives me all this money. It’s sort of overwhelming.”

“It is overwhelming, but I think you can handle it. I can set you up with a financial planner. I don’t want you to blow through your money. One million dollars can go faster than you think.”

“Not for me. I’m very frugal.”

I chuckled. She was adorable. “Do you have a car?”

“Yeah, I have a car back at home.”

“If you’re going to stay in town, I can get your car shipped here.”

“I don’t know.”

“How is your mother adjusting? Your secret father is out now.”

“She was mad at first. But she did come to the funeral with my sister. They are back at the hotel. I didn’t tell her about the money.”

“Wise choice. Money ruins relationships.” I advised.

“All of this is new to me.”

“You don’t have to go back to your job. There are plenty of things for you to do here. I speak for everyone when I say we want you to stay in Vegas for a while so we can get to know you, and you can get to know us.”

“I don’t think I can stay.”

“You don’t want to get to know your brothers and sister?”

“I do. I just don’t know what to tell my mom and my sister about all of this.”

“You’re an adult. I’m sure you can figure something out. Did Valentina tell you about the family business?”

“A little bit. But I’m not a snitch or anything.”

“I appreciate that. I’m in charge now, so if you have any issues, you know you can come to me directly?”

“I can?”

“Yes, of course we are blood. I am your brother. I’m also the boss. You can come to me with anything. The Bregoli’s welcome you with open arms.”

“Thank you Nicco. I’m really happy to hear that. I don’t have a brother. I don’t have any brothers.”

“Now you got a shit ton of brothers. If anybody tries to give you a problem, let me know. I will handle it. You’re a Bregoli and that name means something around these parts. You are not to be fucked with.”

“I wonder why Dom never came for me if he knew I existed?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know what he was thinking. But I can tell you one thing. Dominicco was a fucking asshole. You see, he had you and Lord tucked away in Chicago. Honestly, I don’t know if he even has any other kids out there in the world. I didn’t even know you existed until Pellegrino mentioned you. Dom never told me about you. He told me about Lord. I want you to be comfortable with us. You can stay for a while or you can move to Vegas and be a part of our family.”

“Oh, that’s a lot to think about.”

“Take your time. They’re Bregoli’s everywhere. Even in Chicago. Did you know that you were half Italian?”

“No, I just knew I was half white. Sicilian, Italian is better than being white.”

“Is that so?” she giggled.

“Hell yeah.”

“I’m glad you came and talked to me. You’re like super scary already and then Valentina tells me who you are and I’m like panicking.”
