“Come in.” I called out.
Lord walked in and spotted me and Kelly on the sofa. “You in a meeting?”
“No, what’s up?”
“I wanted to talk to you, but I can come back later.” I could see Lord’s eyes and curiosity scanning the scene.
Kelly was comfortable on the sofa with her bare feet and long, exposed legs. It was definitely not the way it looked.
“Who is this?” Lord boldly asked.
Kelly didn’t speak, so I did. “This is Kelly.”
Lord tilted his head to me with a visibly clenched jaw. “How old are you?” He was obviously talking to Kelly.
She started laughing. “Ugh, dude, that’s gross.” Kelly frowned and looked at me like I was the ugliest man in the universe. It didn’t feel good, but I guess it was appropriate behavior for a daughter.
Lord gave me a harsh grimace. Maybe he remembered that time I told Fredo I wouldn’t fuck his daughter until she was seventeen. I did say that and I meant it at the time, but it wasn’t like I recalled her birthdate.
“I’ll just come back later.” Lord gave me a warning glare and left the office door wide open when he exited the room.
We both chuckled. I had to tell Lord who Kelly was to me. I appreciated that he was looking out for my daughter, even though he didn’t know she was my daughter.
“Who was that?” Kelly asked.
“My other brother, Lordes.”
“Another brother?” She rolled her eyes.
“Yeah, that’s your uncle Lordes.”
“He’s blonde.”
“It’s not his fault. He was born that way. I’m not really gross, am I?”
“Dad, you’re no Tom Holland either.” She concluded.
Who the fuck is Tom Holland?
I spent the better of the next fifty minutes eating and talking with my daughter. Having a daughter was so different from having a son. All I wanted to do was keep her safe. At first, it was hard to not be angry. Lala hid my daughter from me. She never told me she was pregnant. She never told me she had a baby. She never told me the baby was mine.
Lala hid the entire pregnancy from me. I traveled all the time. She lied and said she had some medical condition. When she started showing, we stopped having sex because I thought she was sick. Kelly was the same age as my second son, Vito. I don’t know why I was so shocked to find out Kelly existed. I was shocked, but I wasn’t angry.
For some reason Lala didn’t want me in Kelly’s life. But Lala didn’t run me. She didn’t tell me what to do. As soon as Kelly was in high school, I introduced myself. Even as a freshman in high school, Kelly was cool. She wasn’t upset when she found out I was her father. She agreed to take a DNA test. And she just went along with the plan. Ironically, there was no plan. I didn’t know what I was doing. I just saw this sassy little girl, then this cool ass teenager, and I wanted to be a part of her life. At first she was a little apprehensive, but eventually, she warmed up to me. She had her guard up and that’s one of the things that I admired about her. She wasn’t so trusting of people. She was just like me.
After a while, all the sneaking around became easier and easier. We both agreed that it would be better to keep our relationship from her mother. She was afraid that if she found out she my pack up and move away. I wasn’t sure that was true, but I wasn’t ready to take a chance and lose my only daughter.
I wish my mother were still alive to meet Kelly. She always wanted a granddaughter. I had three sons with Gloria. My sister Valentina had to sons with Dario. The Bregoli’s didn’t have any trouble producing male children. I learned a long time ago that things don’t work out the way you planned.
Seeing my daughter was nice, but when she left, it was back to business. The business was this Tom Cavallari. Who the fuck is that? I thought we killed off every single living and breathing Cavallari. That family was responsible for killing my sister Victoria.
Valentina was devastated when the Cavallari’s murdered her twin sister. The day they took Victoria’s life was the day we swore to wipe them out completely.
So who the fuck was Tom? Was he really a Cavallari? Or was this some trick? He could be a cousin, he could be a distant relative from out of the country. I didn’t know. But I sure was going to get to the bottom of this.
