“No, I’m sorry.” Her voice spilled out like song lyrics.
“No, I’m sorry.”
She smiled as she stared up at me. “It’s okay. It was my fault. I shouldn’t have rushed up the backroom so fast. Doing too much, too fast, too soon.”
Her words pierced me because I’d never heard them quite like that. ‘Doing too much, too fast, too soon.’
“Yeah. No. You can do whatever you like.”
She smiled again and I found that I could talk.
“Uh, I’m fine now. Thanks for catching me before I hit the floor.”
“My pleasure.”
“Uh, I’m good.” She pursed her lips. “You can let me go now.”
My eyes shot down to my arms. I was holding this woman in a firm embrace. I had her against me like I was wearing her as a coat.
“I’m sorry.” I said just as I was letting her move out of my evil clutches. “You’re okay then.”
“Yes, I’m all good. Did you need some help?”
“Help?”
“Yeah, are you looking for a book?”
“Uh, yes, I’m looking for a book.”
“Well I definitely can help you with that.”
“You work here?” I asked just remembering she was rushing from back break room or something similar.
“Yes. She pulled on the lanyard that huge around her neck and lifted it off her breasts directing all my attention from her face to her mounds. I didn’t stare at them for long because I wasn’t that kind of guy. I looked at the name on her work badge.
“La—”
“It’s Labria, like brie the cheese.”
“Labria.”
“Yeah, some people pronounce it La-brea, like La Brea California, but it’s Labria.”
“It’s a beautiful name.” I couldn’t believe I said that out loud.
“Thanks, and you are?”
“My name?”
“Yes, you saved my life.” She joked. “I could’ve went head first into the manga section of you didn’t catch me. What’s your name?”
“My name is—” I paused thinking about how stupid my name would sound to this extremely attractive woman. “I ah, have a name but I sounds weird coming out of my mouth.”
Her eyebrows rose. “You don’t have to tell me.”
“No, no, I just, okay, my name is Lordes. People call me Lord.”
“Okay, Lord what are you looking for.”
