Page 3 of Haldor

I make my way down the incline keeping to the trees so no one will see me, there are a total of twelve caravans, they are all scattered around a small plot of land surrounded by a crop of trees. If I find out that they are involved in the abduction of any of the women, or responsible for their tortures, I will kill every single one of them.

I turn my head to see three men in the far distance talking, the man that has just left the caravan that we were staking out walks towards them. I wonder if the caravan belongs to their leader, maybe a gypsy organization hiding behind their laws and beliefs.

From the corner of my eye I see the caravan door opening which has me turning my head. Tensing, I see a girl appear, she moves with such fluid grace that I am enthralled. Her long curly copper tresses unbound in all its glory fall to her waist, covering her face, as she steps out of the caravan the raise of sun shine down on her which bring her copper tendrils to a burning furnace that has me taking a step forward wanting to run my fingers through her mane of fire to make sure that I am not dreaming, and then I sigh, realizing that she’s not a girl at all but a woman full grown as she turns towards me I see her breasts encased in a white off the shoulder shirt, her curves hidden under a long flowing blue toned skirt that flows around her like a bubbling spring.

For the first time in centuries, I am feeling alive, I take another step forward and then stop. “What the fuck?”

I am acting like a child that has never seen a bird, I have fucking lost my mind. Shaking my head, I grunt in annoyance and step back, I continue to watch the woman as she makes her way towards the crop of trees to my right. What is it about her that has me wanting to follow her, I can feel everything around me vibrating with life, the earth itself seems to be calling to me, guiding me in her direction.

Is it possible that she is involved in something so evil like the death and torture of innocent women? I can’t believe that such a fay creature can be so evil. I start making my way towards where she is heading, I will keep my distance and try and figure out why the man we were watching came to see her. The thought of them having sex fills me with sudden rage, a rage that surprises me with its intensity.

She reaches the trees, disappearing into their protection, not being able to see her has me hurrying towards where she vanished. I can sense her presence, the vibration of her movements known to me through the earth and trees around me. Being an earth bender, I can open myself to feel the vibration of every movement that disturbs the earth around me.

Elementals are faster, stronger and more versatile, we can live for centuries, our only downfall is that we start losing the light within our souls if we don’t find our mate. A few of the elementals have already found their other half, the woman that completes them, But there are many that have submitted to the darkness. In the last decade we realized that the darkness was a state that some of our women are able to push back. The problem is that once we become Keres we are lost, the idea of finding our mate no longer appeals to us and therefore it has become exceedingly difficult to persuade the Keres into the light.

Most of the Elementals will rather die than submit to the darkness as we become evil to our very core. I know that I’m holding on by the skin of my teeth, that if it wasn’t for the revenge that I am committed to I would have been dead long ago. I know that my brothers at the club are worried, that they sense the fight within me. They have been by my side every step of the way, helping me find the bastards responsible, helping me wrought my vengeance.

I slow my step when I sense the woman’s closeness, the very air seems to vibrate. When I step around a tree I stop. What I see fascinates me, has me completely entranced. The woman is standing with her arms thrown up in the air, her feet bare, her face turned up with her eyes closed. Her lips are moving but no sound is forthcoming, and then she starts to turn around in a circle, a smile lifting her beautiful lips.

I have never seen something so enchanting; I could stand here for an eternity looking at this woman with her flowing movements. She’s like a Siren calling to me with her movements, her magical essence is like a beacon in the darkness.

Suddenly she stops, my heart racing in hope that this apparition before me doesn’t disappear. “Goddess of light, mother of all creation, may your energy calm me.” She then stands so still that she seems to be one with everything around her. I hold my breath waiting for her next move, I don’t wait long as she slowly opens her eyes. Her head slanting slightly as if she is listening to something.

“Who is there?” she asks as she turns slowly looking deep into the trees around her. I see her body tensing, “Duke is that you?”

It is my turn to tense at her words. Who is Duke? The sound of another mans name on her lips fills me with a drive to kill. Whoever this Duke is, if he appears now he will be dead. I fist my hands ready to place them around any man that…I freeze, what the fuck am I thinking?

I have never felt this possessive about a woman before, never wanted the death of an unknown person because of Jealousy. Every fiber in my being is screaming the truth, but I refuse to believe that after all these centuries and just when I’m on the brink of giving up, my mate is placed before me.

Is it possible? Can it be that this Siren before me is the woman that was placed on this earth to calm my soul, to lighten my way. I need to know the truth, I must make sure that she’s all that I think she is but first I have to know if the man that left here was the doctor and if he was then I need to know why she was talking to him.

It will be devastating if she is helping people that take pleasure in torturing innocent women, to have that which you have always wanted so close and then it is taken away would be soul shattering. I have given up on ever finding my mate, ever finding that one person that fills my every waking hour. If this woman is my mate, I will have been given a bittersweet gift if she is involved in this pit of evil that follows the elementals.

I hear her huff in annoyance before she shrugs and turns away, leaning down she runs her hand over a Rosemary bush bringing it up to her face to smell its fragrance. The smile lighting up her face in pleasure, she drops down onto her haunches and raises her skirt slightly to place a few cuttings of the Rosemary.

“Thank you, my beauty, for sharing these cuttings with me.” Her voice is melodious. The sound running through my body like a soft touch of peace. Deep down I know she’s my mate, there is no possibility that I could have this kind of reaction without a reason.

For the first time in my life I feel anxious, afraid that she’s not the one or that she will reject me when she knows who and what I am. My heart is thundering in my ears, my legs feel like lead as I take a step forward. I want her to be the one, I want her to bring me back from this darkness that I have fallen into.

I take another step, close enough for her to see me when she turns. Now that I’m this close all I want is to rush up to her, take her into my arms and keep her close for now and always. I have heard from the other Elementals through time that the possessiveness that we feel when we meet our mate is uncontrollable. That is what I feel like now, the thought of sharing her with anyone else is unacceptable.

She stands up straight, her petite figure a whisp of passionate movement that seems like a Tango of flowing notes. I see her tense before she slowly turns to face me, her eyes widen in surprise when she sees me. “Who are you?” she asks slanting her head slightly, her eyes are a beautiful hazel looking directly at me, fearless in their directness.

“Haldor” I state

“Haldor, what are you doing here, this is private land?” she says as she takes a step towards me.

“I am looking for someone” I say, seeing her eyes widen in surprise.

“Someone at our camp?” she asks as a frown adorns her forehead.

“No, but you were seen with him.” I reveal, hoping secretly that she has a good reason to be seeing that man, and maybe he isn’t even the man that we are looking for.

“I was?” she shakes her head in confusion, “Who are you looking for?”

“The man that came to visit you earlier.” I can see the surprise on her face as she nods.

“Are you the man that’s going to stop him?” she asks taking another step forward, “I have been wishing for this moment for quite a while.” Her words have me stiffening, she knows what he has done, and she has done nothing about it.
