She wanted a wave
I gave her lips,
She wanted a smile
I gave her hands,
She wanted a touch
I gave her eyes,
She wanted a look
I gave her dreams,
She wanted peace
I gave her heart,
She wanted a beat
I gave her forever,
She wanted a minute
I gave her the sun,
She wanted the warmth
I gave her an escape,
She wanted salvation
My voice breaks on a silent sob, as I gape at the words, the paper crinkling in my hands. Goosebumps coat my shaking arms, as I recognize myself in the words. He gave me everything, and I never asked about the price of it. He thought he wasn’t enough. He thinks he isn’t enough… I let the paper fall, and grab another one.
What Was I To You
I was your dirty secret
On a dark summer night
A speck of dust on your palm
A name carved in the soft sand
On a silver lake shore
I was your ray of light
In the hour of the morning star
A touch that sends a shiver
And rolls down your body
A drop of color in all the white
I was your rainy cloud
