I nod.
"Okay. Fine. Where are we sleeping?"
I let out a sigh of relief. Once again, Ini trusts me and I'm so grateful.
She looks at the full dining table. "As swanky as this place is, I'm guessing it doesn't have a bunch of guest rooms."
"Elliott and Dot will sleep at Connor's place." I give Elliott a little shrug. "It's right down the hall. Either Tommy or Eoin can let you in."
Relief crosses Elliot's features. "That's a good idea. Dot's going to have enough trouble going to sleep in an unfamiliar place. Having so many people around will only make it harder for her to settle."
I've never been around babies, but I have no doubt Elliott knows what he's talking about. He's been Dot's dad for almost a year.
Eoin says, "Tommy and I will take turns sleeping on the couch. We can't sleep at the same time anyway."
"Maybe one of you should take a nap now?" I suggest. "You can use Cian's bed."
Tommy shakes his head. "We're both staying lively until ten. Boss's orders. We'll trade off every three hours after that. Elliott, you tell me when you want to go to Connor's."
"Now would be great," Elliott says, looking tired.
"Okay, let's go. I left all the baby paraphernalia you said to bring up in the hall."
"This sounds like we're in some kind of military installation," Ini grumbles, but then she adds. "Need any help, Elliott? I don't know much about babies, but I bet I can figure out how to set up the bed while you entertain Dot."
"That would be awesome," Elliott says gratefully. "I want to let Dot crawl around to wear herself out, so she sleeps deeply tonight, but I doubt Connor's place is baby proofed."
"That's something that will have to change," Tommy says. "Him being a dad and all."
Elliott doesn't reply, but the look of hope in his eyes? It's there for anyone to see if they are watching. I'm hoping too, for both of them.
Connor deserves to be happy. So do Elliott and Dot. They deserve to be the family they were meant to be.
"I assume Ini and I will be getting the guest room here?" Mrs. Hart asks. "I'm not staying up until ten. Eight-thirty is about my limit, as you girls know."
I nod. "Do you want one of Cian's t-shirts to sleep in?"
Tommy chokes and Eoin looks like he swallowed something that got stuck in his throat. Ini bursts out laughing.
"What?" I ask her, knowing she'll explain what has everyone acting so weird.
"I doubt a mob boss is used to having his clothes offered to random women for sleepwear."
I shrug. "He didn't mind me wearing his t-shirts. He has some made of silk fiber. They're soft and breathable."
"I brought a nightie in my purse, Anna. While I've never dated a mobster, I've been around the block a few times. When Ini told me you wanted us to come over immediately, I didn't assume we'd be returning home tonight."
"I wish you'd said something to me," Ini gripes. "I didn't bring anything to sleep in and I don't particularly want to borrow a mobster's clothes."
"So, sleep in the altogether, dear. It won't be the first time I've been in bed with a naked woman." Mrs. Hart winks.
Everyone but me bursts out laughing. I’m worried about Ini not having her sleep shorts and tank top she likes to sleep in. It's stressful not to have appropriate sleepwear. Though I liked sleeping naked with Cian.
I know that's not what Mrs. Hart means though.
"It's okay, Anna," Ini says to me, her expression understanding. "I can sleep in my shirt and underwear. Sweetie, I don't need a certain nightgown to get my rest."
Heat burns my cheeks. Because she knows that usually I do.
