Page 54 of Demanding Mob Boss

Connor stares at him in shock, but then he nods. "You bet. Sorry for that, Anna."

"Um…Ini cusses more than anyone I know."

"You haven't met Eoin yet." Connor shakes his head. "Every other word out of his mouth is fuck."

"Not anymore," Cian says ominously.

Connor grins. "Have you taken her to dinner at your ma's?"

"I will tonight."

"You will?" I ask, startled. I liked Mrs. Doyle when I met her in the hospital, but the idea of having dinner in her home makes me nervous.

"She wants to get to know you," Cian says. "Invite your friends. Ma likes to cook."

"But what about Shea?"

"Lachlan is spending the evenings at the hospital with her."

"Can I visit her?" I ask.

Cian gives me a long look. "When she gets home."

"I can handle the hospital." I think.

"She's sleeping a lot. It's the pain meds."

"She'll be happier seeing you at home," Connor adds. "Shea's not one to show weakness. She'll want to be healed a little before visitors. She doesn't even want me or my parents coming to the hospital to see her."

That makes me feel better. Not that Shea needs to heal, but that I'm not her only friend who won't be visiting her in the hospital.

It's strange that she let Lachlan visit her though. Maybe he makes her feel safe like Cian does me.

I go toward my desk, but notice my computer is not on top like it usually is.

"You'll be working in my office with me," Cian says. "When I'm away from here, you'll use your old desk so Connor can keep an eye on you."

He said he needed me to be safe. I didn't realize how much.

Cian and Connor are both looking at me. Cian's gaze is impassive, but Connor looks worried. Like he thinks I'll find his cousin's arrangements upsetting. I don't.

They're better than my lean-to for giving me a sense of peace.

"I'll still have to do the filing and some things out here," I remind Cian.

He nods. Grudgingly.

I bite my lips so I don't smile again.

"Don't do that." Cian is frowning.

"What?"

"Hold back your smile. I feel good when you smile."

"Okay." I'll remember that.

I don't think a lot of things make Cian feel good. Some of his friends and family don't think he feels much of anything at all. So, this is important. He's giving me so much, the least I can do is let myself smile around him when I have an urge to.
