“I deserve that,” he finally said.

“Of course, you fucking do. Do you know that was such a dick thing to do? She didn’t deserve that at all,” Hedda replied. “She was so fucking scared to tell me because she was worried I would pick sides with you because you’re my best friend. Once she told me what you fucking did, I was shocked.”

“I know and I’m sorry. I’m going to call her.”

“Just to say sorry or are you going to say anything else?”

He took a deep breath. “I’m going to tell her I’m sorry and I didn’t mean it. I’m going to tell her I want to see where this goes because I feel a connection, a spark, with her. I’m going to tell her what I do for a job so she knows and can make the decision she wants to.”

He took in several breaths before he started to talk again.

“I didn't want to put her in danger but she's an adult and can make her own decisions. I'm going to tell her and give her time to think. If she still wants to be with me after she finds out what I do, then great, but if she doesn't then I'm going to have to be okay with it,” he said.

“Well, you better fucking call her. Do you know what she told me two days ago?” she asked.

“No?”

“Do you want to take a fucking guess?”

“I don’t know. That she has feelings for me?”

He hoped that was the answer, but he had a feeling it wasn’t.

“No, you shit head. She fucking told me she didn’t want to fucking live anymore. She’s exhausted and really hung up about this. She felt the connection, the fucking connection you talked about a minute ago,” she said.

Miles' whole body felt cold in an instant. She wanted to kill herself? He didn't think him telling her he didn't want anything to do with her was going to make such a big impact. That was not what he wanted at all.

“Really?” he asked.

Sometimes Hedda liked to play bad jokes at the wrong moment and right now he was hoping this was one of her bad jokes. He didn't know what he was going to do if she was being for real.

“I’m not fucking joking. I wouldn’t joke about this shit. I’m dead fucking serious.” She raised her voice. “I went to her work two days ago and she looked like shit. Pale skin, lost weight, absolutely beat.”

He cringed at all the language she was using but couldn't get mad at her now. This was his fault and he was going to have to take responsibility.

Miles felt really bad now. That wasn't his intention at all and yet, that's what happened. He needed to make this right and fast. He didn't want her to do anything drastic, like take her life before he could talk to her.

“Why aren’t you with her?” he asked. “Shouldn’t you be with her right now so she doesn’t do anything?”

“I'm meeting her soon to have dinner. I'm not leaving her alone for several hours. She goes to work and has people around her. I see her right before she gets off work and we normally hang out. She told me she needed to take a shower and change her clothes before we could meet,” Hedda said. “I made her pinky promise, and you know pinky promises are a lot when you're a Little, that she wouldn't do anything. She promised she would call me if she had any of those thoughts. I trust her.”

A sigh of relief went through Miles when he heard they were going to hang out. She wasn't going to be alone. That was the only thing he cared about right now.

He wished he could go to her in person, but he was waiting on a text message. They had gotten Luigi De Luca and he was waiting for the word to come interrogate him. Miles had figured out where he was and sent two people to grab him, two people he trusted and knew could get the job done.

“When are you going to call her?” Hedda asked.

“I was going to call her right now but then you called. Now I don't know when I'll be able to call her because I have to gotalkto somebody,” he replied.

“Don't you fucking wait to call her three days later. You better fucking call her right after you finish your little ‘talk’ with whoever.”

“Yes, ma'am.”

“And don't you fucking call me ma'am. You know I hate that shit.”

Miles chuckled and shook his head. That was the only reason he called her ma’am, because he knew it would get on her nerves.

“Before you end the call, I want to let you know that just because you cursed right now, and for good reason, doesn't mean I'm not going to tell your brother. Both of us have told you on multiple occasions to stop cursing,” he said.
