Tiffany had other plans.
She thought she was being clever, the camera in that corridor has been temperamental for months, so God knows how long she's been skimming my supplies. I didn’t rush the camera repairs, there was no hurry with a member of staff stationed at the exit. Didn't know the fucker was letting the girls sneak out that way.
I didn't tell anyone I'd fixed the camera; the staff aren't supposed to go down there, I was just clearing my to-do list for the club.
Imagine my surprise to find one of my staff on that camera, slipping into my supply room. I was expecting Miss Ellis to head home to the house she rents a room in, but the bitch has other plans for tonight. For now, she seems to have vanished.
“I think we might have found something.” Caeo enters my office, dragging a blond slip of a girl behind him. He turns abruptly and shuts her out when his eye falls on the door attendant.
“Give me a minute,” I nod at him. Pressing on the intercom, I order two men to come up and deal with Branston. He won't lose his job over this, but he has learnt his lesson.
I step outside to see what Caeo has brought me. She's one of my girls, but tonight she wasn't on shift.
“We checked out Tiffany's room, and the lovely Zoe here thinks she might know where we might find her, for the right incentive.” Caeo encourages her forwards with a gentle push.
“Incentive, huh?” I question sternly. I'm in no mood to taken advantage of by anyone else today.
“I don't know anything about the drugs you're looking for, but I know where Tiffany might go.”
“And how much will this information cost me?”
“I just want to get noticed. If you could… Being seen on your arm would boost my dreams…”
“Stop there honey. I'm not interested in women.” I turn my attention to Caeo. “Get Zoe two hundred for her time and transfer her to the club on Westminster Avenue. Have her introduced to Andrew Green.”
“Mr Green?” Zoe's face lights up as she recognises the actor's name. She has no idea how quickly he burns through girls, and she won't thank me later. But she won't be my problem then.
“I just need an address.”
“I don't have an address. But I know she had a mum and brother. If I give you their names, can you find the address?”
“Absolutely.” The names are all I need. Caeo is nearly twice my age, but my number two, and as loyal as they come. He pulls out his phone and starts looking up the two names.
“Got it, they are across the river,” he informs me while scrolling through his phone. “Looks like a half hour drive.”
“Let's go pay them a visit, shall we?” I have a reputation in this city. I only sell pure, high quality merchandise. I keep the other dealers out of the city, keeping the quality high, and in return, the cops turn me a blind eye. Tiffany Ellis isn't just stealing from me; she's dealing in my streets. That bitch is going to pay.
“Get someone to take her home.” I say motioning to the blond.
“I can oversee it, if you want to go call it a night,” Caeo insists. “Tiffany's just a little thief, no need for the big boss man to show his face.”
“I want to deal with this personally. No one steals from me and gets away with it.” I'm going to make an example of this young lady. I didn't earn the nickname Thayer the slayer by sitting on my arse and delegating. I earnt that name by proving myself to everyone from the bottom level to my father at the top that a little blood goes a long way. The father I plan to replace one day.
I leave my desk and stride across my office. There is nothing for me at home. My home is my fortress; no one gets in or out of there. It's one of the largest houses in the city, surrounded by enough grounds to forget the rest of the world exists. But it is just a shell, a place to sleep. My life is out here, running the largest drug cartel in the country, and the nightclubs that cover their activity.
My car is waiting in the courtyard, I've gone for the black range rover so with the driver and three bodyguards, I still have the back row to myself. Caeo and the rest of my men follow in their own cars. This is a show of power. Ms Ellis will show the rest of the city why no one fucks with me.

Afterwashingup,Ithrow a load of laundry in the washer and set it going. I've worked nights for so long, I'm a complete night owl. Waiting for Annie to sneak back out is tiring, but she sent me that text for a reason, that wasn't just about milk. Someone bangs on the door. It's quite a demanding knock but there's no hiding the fact I’m home as I've got all the lights on. Who the hell is here at this time of night. God, I hope it’s not the police. They begin pounding on the door again.
“Just give me a second,” I yell as I reach for the bat in the corner. Time to meet my sister's ride out of here.
As my hand turns the lock, Annie's voice screams from her doorway not to open it. Quicker than I can react, the door slams into my face. Then it keeps coming, trapping me between it and the wall. When the door moves back, a huge body takes its place.
“Where is she?”
