“Kingsnake will kill you once he returns.”

“He put me in charge, and he’ll respect my decision—”

“To get laid?” Viper asked incredulously. “She’ll kill you in your sleep.”

“She promised not to run or attack—”

“And you believed her?”

I held up my hand to silence him. “I can explain if you stop interrupting me every two seconds.”

He let out a breath, nostrils flaring.

“I made a deal with her. She spends a week with me—and I’ll let her go.”

He took another deep breath and instantly reached for the hilt of his sword. “How are you so stupid—”

“I have a plan.”

“Yes, to fuck her brains out.”

“At the end of the week, she won’t leave.”

“Why?”

“Because she’ll want to stay.” I grinned.

His face tightened as he tried to control the potent rage bubbling under his skin. “This has to be the stupidest plan I’ve ever heard—”

“It’ll work. And then she’ll want to help us.”

“And what happens when she wants to leave?”

“She won’t.”

“If she does, do you keep her anyway?”

“It won’t come to that—”

“Answer the fucking question.”

I stared at him. “If that really happened…I’d have to keep my word.”

“So this entire plan is contingent on how good you are in bed?”

“I’m great in bed, so—”

“Kingsnake should have left me in charge.”

“He won’t feel that way when I have an Ethereal at our disposal.”

Viper had finally had enough of this conversation. “I hope she kills you.” He walked off. “And I’ll say I told you so as I stand over your grave.”
