CROSS THE LINE
Brax
She sleeps.
Finally.
I had to make her stop talking. I gave her too much information as it is. My job is to blend in, pretend I’m one of them, do everything I can tobeone of them.
But she had to know that’s a line I’d never cross. I can deal with her thinking I run a cartel and do all the dirty shit her father does or worse, but there was no way I could go one moment longer without making it clear that I didn’t participate in the same shit that got Damian off.
Hell, Damian asked me once if I was gay when I refused to join his fuckfest for the tenth time. He even offered to find me, and I quote, some nice dick, so I could join in on the fun.
I told him it didn’t matter if I preferred pussy or dick—groups, sharing, and non-con weren’t my kink.
That was enough to keep him off my back. I stuck to business—stealing his secrets and setting up wires that went straight to Cole Carson. Damian was stupid enough to focus on whatever flavor of fetish he was in the mood for that day while I carried on.
And I didn’t lie to Landyn when I told her if anyone touched her, they’d die. Which is why my life goals are out of whack and finding Nic Decker is at the top of my list.
Spencer – I watched the surveillance three times. Nic talked his way in. Convinced them he just spoke to you and he was ordered to wait here until you returned. I emailed you the cut of the video. Nic was convincing.
Me – They still did nothing to stop him.
Spencer – Nic’s last name might be Decker, but he’s still a Marino. These men respect the name, and they’re scared of him. They know they fucked up.
Me – I want them gone. Where’s Nic?
Spencer – I don’t know. I thought he’d go to his parents’ home in Santa Barbara, but he hasn’t shown up.
I focus on Landyn’s steady breath against my chest so I don’t throw my fucking phone across the room.
Me – How do you know?
Spencer – I have contacts too. Don’t make me tell you how I know, because I won’t.
Interesting. I guess the hired help talk. But it makes sense Nic would run to his parents. He knows he’s in deep shit.
For me to get close to Damian, I needed Nic out of the way. I had a feeling Nic was skimming product off the top. All I had to do is exaggerate the numbers when I brought it to Damian. Paranoia took over, and the rest is history.
Blood is not thicker than money in this world. Nic was cut out by Damian and Alamandos. The only reason he’s still breathing is because he is a Marino.
Spencer – The guards are freaking out about what you’re going to do.
I let my hand slip down to rest on Landyn’s ass.
Me – They should. I’ll deal with them in the morning. Nic can’t hide forever. If he shows at his parents’, let me know.
My next call should be to Cole Carson.
Should be.
But that would put this on the record, and for the first time since I stepped foot into the Marino world, I need something to be off the record.
Spencer – Of course. And, sir, I just want to let you know, everyone in this house has your back. After tonight, I think you can safely add the boy to that list.
I let out a deep breath.
