Rocco’s cell hasn’t budged. This could be good news or really bad news depending on your outlook on life.
I’m not thinking good things.
A voice crackles over the com. “We cleared two more buildings on the northeast side of the block. One was abandoned, and the other was a legit business. We’re going across the street to search another one.”
I lead the way with Carson and Tim on my heels as I respond. “Copy. We’re south of you—almost out of tower range. Check in when you’re done.”
We’re about to turn a corner when Micah calls. I don’t have the chance to greet him when he starts talking. “I’ve got Landyn. We’re almost there.”
“Dammit,” I bite. “Keep her away. I have no clue what we’ll run into. We’re breaching another building.”
“I want to be close. Brax, we need to talk.”
I hear Landyn in the background, and I swear she’s crying.
I’m about to rip Micah a new asshole for upsetting her again, but I stop in place and hold my hand up. Tim and Cole see what I see, and we all shift behind the corner of the building.
“A bike. It’s Logan’s. And that cargo van looks exactly like one that’s owned by the Jackals. Rocco is in that building.”
“I’ll find you,” Micah growls. “Don’t go in without backup.”
“Do not fucking leave her,” I hiss.
He doesn’t answer and hangs up.
Damn him.
I look back at Carson and Tim. Their weapons are drawn. It’s just the three of us since we split up.
“This is the DEA’s playground,” Carson mutters low. “I’m a guest on your merry-go-round, so it’s your call. You want to go in or wait for backup?”
Tim’s jaw goes hard, but he lifts his chin to me. “You know these people best. I’ll let you make the call.”
I’ve navigated the last two years on my own. Having two people at my back feels like an army in comparison.
Common sense and my background in tactical training tells me to wait. We have teams in the area and don’t know what we’re walking into.
But my gut…
If Rocco’s cell is in there, it means he’s likely there too. So is Logan and at least one other. Maybe more.
We’ll have the element of surprise.
A commotion comes from the building followed by yelling and howling.
Shit.
I turn to the men who have had my back for two years and trusted me every step of the way. I look between the two of them when I lift the com to my mouth. “Found them. Track our location. We need backup. We’re going in.”
I silence the radio and steady my gun. “Let’s go.”
* * *
Landyn
“We’re going in.”
I curl into myself in the passenger seat as I listen to Brax’s voice over the radio in Micah’s car.
